Starring as a swashbuckling turn-of-the-century coastguard, hot on the trail of cut-throat pirates, smugglers and free-wheeling police officers, Jackie Chan treat his audience to a fun-filled, action-packed motion-picture, experience, which shows him at his most reckless and brilliant and has become a benchmark standard for other filmmakers to follow.

Both cuts listed refer to the first film.

I’m glad to see this is coming as well as the 4K. I’ve been sticking with bds for all these Jackie Chan titles since most of them stateside haven’t had a 4K (besides these releases from 88 of course). It’s great that we’re getting all these titles!

Does anyone know if VIDI issued the first film on VHS (or indeed any media representing the Taiwanese version in full)?

Does anyone know what Lung says in the attached clips of the first film?

Lung: SOMETHING
Rear-Admiral: Yeah, that's me.
Lung: Okay.

Other than the script for the English version, I don't have many clues.

The Cantonese clip sounds like "Admiral Wellington?"

The Mandarin clip sounds like "General Winter?" or maybe "General Windsor?" - the rank doesn't make sense, but that's what I hear.

I could be wrong.

That's what they sound like to me, too.

Thanks!

During the end credits of the second film, some representations of the Hong Kong version contain a handful of shots from the main feature. However, a few others have only outtakes/behind-the-scenes. Could historians help?

  • Top-middle: Eureka! Entertainment [Blu-ray] {Fortune Star 2K}
  • Top-right: Intercontinental Video Limited [DVD] {Fortune Star HDCAM}
  • Middle-left: Hong Kong Legends [DVD] {Media Asia print}
  • Middle-right: Cantonese-language print {Fortune Star Media DigiBeta}
  • Bottom-left: English-language print {Fortune Star Media DigiBeta}
  • Bottom-middle: Video Programme Distributors [VHS] {Golden Harvest print}

Don't know about this, but given that the VPD VHS dates back to 1988, I'd say it's the most likely to be representative of the original.

That's one reason why I'm not sure because, for whatever reason, the export version takes out one shot during the behind-the-scenes/outtakes (resulting in a jump cut when looking at Jackie in the corner).

It could be that later prints of the Hong Kong version adopted something closer to the export version.

Maybe there can be an option on the disc (using seamless branching).

Does anyone have a rip of the export trailer for each film with the Golden Harvest ident? They might have been on a Video Programme Distributors VHS, for example. It would be beneficial as a reference.

88 Films is so bad for responding on social media about tgeir releases. They announce 10 new titles but when asked if there was any update for a delayed title, they just ghost your comments.

I've gotten used to the 88 delays at this point, but the least they could do is update their fans/customers from time to time.

There's no way this is happening, but I got a shipping notification from Target already. Guessing they just caught up in creating labels from the sale.
