Default Sony will unveil new ways to combat PSP piracy soon

‘There is a piracy problem on PSP’

Quote:
We know about it, we know how it’s done. It sometimes fuels the growth of hardware sales, but on balance we are not happy about it,” said Reeves, telling attendant developers that Sony will unveil new ways to combat piracy soon.
What could it be?

Hopefully it'll be something good and worthy, everytime they tried to combat it through FW upgrades they got owned. I don't own a PSP yet but apparently even the CFW upgrades are better than the Sony ones.

Maybe they will incorporate all (or most of) the features that the Un-official firmware updates do so there will be more people keeping the Official updates and that would mean fewer bricked units. Which in turns means more operational hardware units out there. That's the reason I will never install anything onto my PSP that is not Officially from Sony themselves. Even all my accessories are Sony brand.

they will release a new psp with dual analog sticks. and 2 left/right triggers. that way people will buy these and they will already have the latest firmware on them that doesn't allow the installation of previous editions of firmware?

It's not the firmware revisions that allow people to downgrade, it's the developer mode pin in the battery.

I have seen all kinds of wild stuff done on psps, wiis, and ds's. Piracy is, and always has been a problem. Like so many other things out there, it's a never ending battle.

The funny thing is that the 'piracy' thats going on isn't even affecting the distribution of the PSP. In fact its probably increasing the sales. Yet they are trying to 'fix' it, lol.

The "problem" is that it affects software sales, where there's also a lot of money to be made.

Of course, you can also argue that the inflated hardware sales can potentially lead to greater software sales down the line.
