Default XPS and Blu Ray

Brand new system with Blu ray and out of the box playbck doesn't work. Nothing that Dell has provided has helped. WHich, BTW, isn't much!

I installed the Dell Power DVD software that says (supports blu Ray playback), but Nothing.

Ideas? Or is it just another Dell system that under performs as usual? At least my HD Toshiba drive worked! I am certain Blu-ray is the coolest but, I had HD players that actually worked as adverstised.

Did the Blu-Ray drive come pre-installed?

What does it do - if anything?
Error? Doesn't see the disc? Unsupported format?

Anything?

Is the BD movie a BD Live disc? I don't think any version of PowerDVD supports Profile 1.1 or Profile 2.0 discs. The newest version of WinDVD is only Bonus View capable.

Nevertheless, any BD should allow the movie to be played at the very least regardless if it supports BD Profile 1.1 or 2.0 features or not.

Both PowerDVD 7.3 and PowerDVD 8 are Profile 2.0, newest WinDVD is BD-live (Profile 2.0) and so is Total Media Theatre. I own all of these with the exception of PowerDVD 8, and now I use TMT and WinDVD 9+ BD exclusively. I have removed PowerDVD totally from my system.

Default Sorry, so frustrated didn't give much information

The player works for all media except BluRay. When a BR disc is inserted, the system indicates there is no media in the drive.

I have reinstalled the PowerDVD software from Dell and reinstalled the MEdia Direct software hoping that there was just something that came installed incorrectly.

The BR Player was OEM (MAtshita Drive) with the XPS system

DELL XPS 1530
Media Direct /POwerDVD software
Vista Ultimate
Matshita bd re uj 225s ATA
INtel DUO 2.5 proc
4 GB RAm

what else?

Got it! Your system didn't come with at BD drive installed...did it? If it came with the HD-DVD drive - your version of PowerDVD is the HD-DVD only version. You need to update your software to the full version of Powerdvd 8 (but it won't let you play HD-DVD without a workaround) - so I recommend Total Media Theatre from Arcsoft or WinDVD9 Plus BD from Corel. You will get BD playback and retain HD-DVD playback as well
EDIT: Uhh Ohhh. I now see that It was an OEM drive (read the last line of the post prerich - I feel so stupid!!! . I still recommend upgrading your player software (make sure you perform all of the updates for your current software before you spend money on different one).

Try Total Media Theatre for free - follow this link http://www.arcsoft.com/support/downl...downloadid=384 and tell me if it plays or not.

If I was in your situation I would take it back to wherever you purchased it from.

....and exchange it for a Sony or HP.

You shouldn't be having those problems at all.

Default Replaced drive

after 2 weeks of Dell saying that the drive was fine and it was "software" issues...they finally replaced the drive and it worked immediately.
