Hi,
I have been looking around for are Blu-ray player which can decode DTS-HD / DTS-HD Master and the new DD+ and DD TrueHD, and output the sound via 5.1 or 7.1 analog out? Is such a player not avaible not?? |

No BLU-RAY player has 7.1 analog outputs yet that will decode the full spectrum DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD audio. Decoding standard Dolby Digital or standard DTS is mandatory on all BLU-RAY players. Decoding Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD is an optional feature on the BLU-RAY players. Future BLU-RAY players may have 7.1 analog outputs or allow DTS-HD or TrueHD to be passed over digital audio output.. Current BLU-RAY movies with 5.1 or future discs with 7.1 PCM audio pass the full PCM data using standard HDMI on existing BLU-RAY players to a receiver that can handle 7.1 PCM.
The easy way to get 7.1 surround sound from future DTS-HD or Dolby True HD is by using a HDMI 1.3 BLU-RAY player like the PS3 and a receiver that handles HDMI 1.3. HDMI 1.3 will send True HD and DTS-HD over bitstream. I would rather see the receiver do all of the decoding for the advanced 7.1 surround formats and just use HDMI 1.3 connection between both BLU-RAY player and receiver to make connections simple and to keep things all digital. BLU-RAY players could be made at lower costs if they leave 7.1 analog outputs off the players and also make the players so they don’t decode the advanced improved surround formats. Only some DVD players today decode 5.1 DTS surround sound. Most DVD players will require one to have surround receiver with a digital input and the receiver will decode DTS. We really don’t need both the BLU-RAY player doing all the decoding if one owns a receiver that already does. Also if in the future if Verzion FIOS which has a large bandwidth with fiber optics going to the side of the house decides to offer 1080P movies with DTS-HD, then one would need a new receiver with DTS-HD decoding. BLU-RAY and HD-DVD might not be the last device that uses DTS-HD or Dolby True HD. There are many advantages of owning a receiver that does all the decoding for you. There should be several receivers on the market in late 2007 that does 1080P switching over HDMI 1.3 that also does the advanced audio decoding. The best long term solution is to allow the receiver to do all the decoding. Possible in the future there might be some future BLU-RAY players that have 7.1 analog outputs for owners of older surround receivers with analog inputs. thanks for the reply.
Well the problem is, that I have a nearly brand new NAD Master surround set, which does not offer HDMI audio input at all. So im forced to use the analog in. It is not that I do not agree, it would much easier to just send the signal digitaly via HDMI 1,3. All the DVD players which I have owned have had built in decoders, which is neccasary for DVD-audio. Although I also use coax for movies, while the decoder/DAC in my preamp are better. In live in Denmark (Europe) and we don't even have on single high def channel yet ![]() |

Helicon,
I am in the same predicament. I paid $3000 for my Denon 4802 and don't want to upgrade my receiver, but I still want to hear Dolby TrueHD, PCM 5.1, and others on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. There is a way without going the HDMI route. My receiver luckily has 7.1 analog inputs. Actually this machine has all the stuff you want except for a decent price: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-eCgnYk4...0&I=133DMPBD10 |

Well the Panasponic does not support DTS-HD, DTS HD-Master and TrueHD.
I think until a player arives, that is capable of decoding every format. Blu-ray titles are also very limited i Denmark |

Glad you caught that about the DTS-HD and TrueHD. I would have bought that one if the price dropped. I was looking at the PCM 5.1 part which most current Blu-Ray titles are. I believe they're going to step up on Dolby TrueHD and the others in the future.

Man, its 2008 and I'm still in the same predicament, no TrueHD, DTS-HD, 5.1 or 7.1 PCM with Sony BDP-S300 + Onkyo SR800 7.1. I have been suggested the Panasonic 10AK Blu-ray player with 7.1 analog outputs, looks like I'm going with that suggestion so far.

I still don't understand it when some people say "Downmix to PCM"
This does not mean that the quality is inferior in some way does it? I thought the PCM that my PS3 outputs across my HDMI calbe, would not really matter as---supossedly the HD content comming out my speakers should sound the same as any bitstream player hooked up to my same receiver & 5.1 setup? Or is the term Downmix used in some other context other than of lesser quality. My appollogies...yes my thought patterns are out of sync ![]() ![]() |

You guys are looking for the upgraded version of that Blu-Ray player like the one I've got. The DMP-BD10A or DMP-BD10AK. The player WILL decode TrueHD and DTS-HD and send it over 7.1ch analog outs like I had been doing for the past 8 months, but the Blu-Ray player does not decode DTS-HDMA. However it is discontinued and I just upgraded to a better HDMIv1.3 receiver so now I'm in the market for another Blu-Ray player that will push DTS-HDMA and TrueHD over bitstream.
