Exclamation SlySoft Releases HD DVD Ripper; Blu-ray Next

Quote:
On Saturday, Antiguan developer SlySoft released the first version of AnyDVD HD, a program that allows users to strip HD DVDs of their content protections, including HDCP, and rip the data to a PC's hard drive.

Furthermore, in response to customer demand, the company said it planned to release a future version of the software to do the same for Blu-ray discs. A beta version is due this quarter, said Tom Xiang, SlySoft's marketing director, in a statement.

as is my understanding, this is based on the current rip. if they can reject those keys, these tools will become null and void

^^ That's my understanding too.

This is based on mis-use of a hacked vendor key. And, as you say, temporary.

If this was about fair use rights, these people wouldn't be posting the movies on P2P. Because piracy is not fair use.

"Pirates" or hackers... will always find a way around protection.
It's happend with all formats, But I really dont see it slumping BR sales.

I for one would much rather buy a disc, than spend hours downloading and burning it.
The blank media isint exactly on the cheap side.. and you get no case and cover! No deal for me..

Having this isnt econimical right now with burner costing 500 + and disk costing 20+ maybe when those prices are down to what dvds are it will be good for back up purposes, but unless you are a bootleger and buy in bulk and sell a lot of copies it is just not a good time.

Thanks for the info, I've been waiting to see if they were going to release any tools for the new HD formats.

For those of you not familiar with them, Slysoft makes some nice utilities for getting around problems caused by current copy protection. I bought several of their utilities for my cd/dvds that I own and they work great and they do update them frequently. I turned off the update notification because it was honestly popping up notices several times a week.

I have a pc game I play a lot that requires the cd in the drive. I made a backup copy because it was pretty old and was worried the cd might go bad or get too many scratches. The game recognized the disk as recordable and wouldn't play. I use the Slysoft ConeCD now and it reports my backups as original cds and I can play my game with my backup discs.

I also had a number of cds I couldn't put on my pc because of the copy protection and their AnyDVD product now allows me to copy them without problems.

I'm hoping their HD products will be able to eliminate any HDCP issues with people wanting to watch BR movies on their pc monitors.

I'm sure there are people who buy their products to make illegal copies but in my case, they really helped me get my fair use out of content I purchased. My experience with them has been great so I hope people don't get the impression they are in league with the pirates.
