There is a new emulator for Sega's archaic Model 2 arcade chipset available for PC. A friend of mine is banging on about how its so brilliant and allows him to relive the memories of arcades circa 1994.
So I had a thought. Model 2 is well within the capabilities of the PS3 and PSN is designed with arcadey type games in mind. So why does Sony not license Sega's whole model 2 range of titles for PSN? Remember the Daytona deluxe cabinets that 8-10 units bolted onto each other with cameras pointing at each player. You could recreate that experience on PSN. Bombing around Sonic corner with that famous "DAYYYYYYYTONA" soundtrack with eyetoy and PSN chat. I am very disappointed with PSN games overall and I think it would be great to be able to just have a 15 minute blast on something that doesn't drain your brain too much. Just clock in to PSN, join a Daytona race in 30 seconds and wham, off you go! Of course Scud Race, Sega Rally, Manx TT, Virtua Fighter 2, House of the Dead could all be added too. They would all fit into the realm of great PSN gaming. Because of the way PSN works, I think its better for the public to choose what goes on it. We don't get a choice of anything else its always up to the devcos. Sony should reward people who play on PSN by trying to license something that gets a high enough petition vote. So do you think A) Model 2 emulation is a good idea or B) Sony listening to its customers by licensing products which get the greatest votes. If you think they are a good idea put your ideas here. Lets hear yours. We have PSN, let us vote for what we can have. My vote is for Scud race and Daytona PSN. Whats yours? Regards, Richard. |

I would like to see Sega games on PSN, but from the era to be honest i'd rather Namco games, ridge racer owns daytona, tekken owns Virtua fighter.

All I really want is the old Mega Drive/Genesis (why did the Americans get the cool name?) games like Streets of Rage and Golden Axe with online co op and Sonic the Hedgehog and Shinobi for the loners. C'mon Sega, where's the games.

Wait, how about this Sega arcade game?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_...of_Death_Adder This was the first Golden Axe game which was in 32 bit and the game supported up to 4 players. Imagine that. A retro arcade classic, never released on consoles, with up to 4 players online. Sega, you better be reading this. |

Well the point of the thread was to enable online play on games which never had them in the era they were born.
Daytona is only available on Saturn and Dreamcast and neither was powerful enough to do justice to the game. Scud race never got released at all (Super GT in the USA). Now we have the power to make these games 100% perfect with online play, I think PSN delivers a great platform from which these games can be launched. I was hoping my idea would spark a trend and start an avalanche of requests. Shame really. I've seen many requests on these forums come to light from the Blu ray forum. Since the DC, there are literally millions of Sega fans waiting for what they thought would come. This idea would live that dream for them. Please Sony.. Please. |

I've got about 3 more games that should be brought back from the dead.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Stone_Collection Yup. I want both games to have online play. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_Front_Online I've heard great things about the online play back in the day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propeller_Arena This game was completed but was never released due to its similarities with 9/11. I'd say the time is right to bring this baby back with the online play intact. |

I still use my Dreamcast, and I have close to 140 original games for it, many of which are arcade perfect conversions. Many of Sega's greatest arcade games were created on the NAOMI arcade board, which was basically the arcade version of Dreamcast with double the memory. Personally, I think if Sony could work out an exclusive PSN agreement with Sega, for both their arcade games and Dreamcast games (especially online games), we'd be in downloadable heaven. Sega was/is king of the arcade games, and their online Dreamcast titles were fantastic too. Last edited by kingofgrills; 08-07-2008 at 05:49 PM. |
