Default PS3 Warranty Question

If your PS3 is under warranty and you have to send it in for repair for whatever reeason, will they fix the unit you send in, or just ship you out a refurb?

Yeah, I know if the unit is out of warranty you will not get the same one back you sent it, but my question is when it is under warranty, will you get the same unit back. Also, once you get your unit back from a warranty claim, does the 1 year period start over again, or does it still expire one year from the original date of purchase?

I had to send a psp in under warrenty and they sent back a different one. the warranty was for 60 days (I think) or the year from original purchase, whichever was a longer period

I just sent mine in, and the paperwork said (or someone told me) that they will try to repair the one you send in. If that doesn't work then they will replace it.

They give you a 90-day warranty period for the PS3 that you receive, so play the heck out of it right after you get it to work out the kinks.

Default Fingersprints on Blu-rays bring my PS3 to it's knees!

I was wondering if anyone experienced this problem. I put in Uncharted and everything was fine and then the music stopped playing about midway through a chapter. Finally I decided to restart the game and the little golden medallion that rotates was on my screen for about 10 minutes (I let it keep going). Then I restarted the PS3 and the game got past the intro videos then just kept loading again.

I took the game out and it had some smudges on it, so I cleaned them off and everything was fine. I've noticed this once before with Uncharted, but never with any other games.

Is it possible that the laser is going out or are fingerprints that bad for the disc? I've never experienced a fingerprint totally making a disc unreadable before...

EDIT: Oops, meant to make this it's own thread... but I suppose it may get some answers here...

When you say if they can't fix it, they replace it... do they replace it with a brand new console, or a refurb?

It will be a refurb of the same model that you sent them. I just sent mine off yesterday, so if it's not another 60 GB you gents will probably hear about it!

I've had this problem with two movies. Spiderman 3 got a few finger prints on the disc and would not load up. Gave it a good clean and bang it loaded first time. Lent Rambo to a friend got it back and it jumped at some point in the movie. popped it out looked at the disc and it had a few prints on it, gave it a clean and went to the point that it jumped at and it played fine.

Fingerprints made for slow loading of my used copy of Motorstorm.

So,.. I cleaned all my Blu Rays and clean all rentals I get from Netflix before I play them.

Seems like the scratch resistant coating is great but fingerprints smudge it really easy.
