Default New Pioneer Elites

I have searched the forum and haven't found much, so if this has been posted before i apologize..

Looking to buy a new receiver, and the main one i am looking at now is the Pioneer Elite VSX-94THX. I am uncertain on whether i should purchase this now, or wait for the new Pioneer Elite models to come out in August i think?

The main things i want in the receiver are a minumum of 140x7, lower the THD the better, ability to handle the new high-res audio (obviously), and minimum of 3 HDMI in.

The 94 covers all those things, so what are the newer models going to bring? just do everything better or will their main focus be new features?

thanks for the help guys.

The 94TX is a lot closer to the new SC receivers (except the SC-09 flagship) than the other 9-series Elite receivers.

The biggest differences are networking and the SC-07 will upsample all incoming audio signals to 24/192 for advanced processing. I believe the SC-05 and SC-07 will have more efficient and/or cleaner power.

That's a decent read at the differences.

Hmm, just looks like its a couple hundred bucks up from the 94 if i wanted to get the SC-05, and it sounds like it should be more efficient. It'd be nice to know how big it is so i could know which one would fit better

You should look into the new Pioneer VSX-1018TXH-K. Although it only offers 130x7, it will have all the new audio codecs. (DD-HD, DTS-HD MA, etc.) and it is listed at a MSRP of $599. It's atleast worth holding off a few weeks and gathering more info. Unfortunately, there's not alot of info out on it right now. Here's the link about the press release.

Be careful. If you look at a close up of the back of the reciever SC-07 the power consumption is only 330 watts. That is very low considering they are advertising 140 watts per channel. To get that much wattage per channel the power consumption needs to be around 900+ watts. I would wonder what type of amplifiers they are using inside

AC vs. DC.

To original post. If you want all those things I would look at the Onkyo 905 Onecall.com has it for $1499. It has awesome amplifier section and I think it has at least 4 HDMI IN and 2 OUT and all the latest decoding. I have the Denon 4308ci and love it. If the Onkyo would have been that price when I bought mine I would have chosen the 905.

I misread your original post thinking it meant minimum 331W. Anything but the 09 won't feed power hungry speakers. I do agree and doubt the 07 detailed specs will say all channels continuous at 140W. I have dedicated 20A circuits driving my amps.

I would just ? the Elites Amplifier section. They do a great job with decoding but I am not sure about power.

My AVR4308ci is 140 watts/channel the power consumption is 8.1 Amps which converts to right at 980 watts which is right on the mark 140X7=980.

75watts vs 100watts vs 140watts...almost has no real world effect. Not something to be overly concerned about when looking at receivers.

an amplifier rated at 100 watts per channel needs to be 1,000 watts per channel to be twice as loud.
