Default The Proposition - Guy Pierce

Is this title worth a blind buy? Any comments on the movie would be great.

Thanks.

Well worth a blind buy..great cast w/ Guy Pierce, Danny Huston and Ray Winstone as the 3 main leads, directed by John Hillcoat (who also directed Cormac McCarthy's The Road, out this fall), with a screenplay by Nick Cave (from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Fame)..an underrrated western IMO, and it can be had for under $10 at most places!

I heard it is. I bought this as a blind buy on the recommendations from users here, but have not watched it yet.

Don't forget the acting of John Hurt and Nick Cave's "modern score." Ray Winstone and Danny Huston shine and both have become two of my favorite actors as a result of their performances in this movie. At $10 bucks it's a no-brainer, especially if you're a fan of westerns to begin with.

Another yes (for anyone else, since the OP decided already).

It's cheap and excellent. I went in blind on it when it came out and was very happy I did.

how can you guys recommend a movie when you have no idea what the Op's taste in movies is like?

I enjoyed this movie but wouldn't recommend to everyone unless I knew what they liked.

it's extremely egocentric to do otherwise but people do it all the time in every day life

I mentioned that if he liked westerns already, then it would be even more of an obvious choice. So nanny nanny boo boo stick your head in doo doo.

That means I can never ever ask my buddy how he liked the movie?

When did you get all existential?! The guy asked if people recommended it. As a result, one can assume that he is open to others' opinions. Additionally, one may assume that this film interests him and that he wishes to know more. A further assumption would be that he potentially enjoys films that are in the same genre.

Or hell, maybe he's just a cheapskate, saw the cheap price, and is a follower and wanted someone to tell him to buy it. I dunno.

On topic, I love this movie. Bought it after a rental and love it.

It's pretty easy. He asked.

A good movie doesn't need a qualifier on it. If you like film and can appreciate more than one type of movies, then there's no reason why anyone wouldn't find some value in The Proposition.

It's well done, well acted and novel. It's not the greatest movie ever, but it's hard to go wrong for $10.

If he didn't want "out of context" answers, he shouldn't have asked the question without giving more information. He clearly wanted to be convinced, and I'd be willing to bet he'll be happy with it - most people don't blindly ask if they should buy a movie if they don't have some idea that they'll like it before making the thread.

It has nothing to do with egocentrism.

the blame is on the Op for a vague ass first post.

but I don't argue with your "A good movie doesn't need a qualifier on it. If you like film and can appreciate more than one type of movies, then there's no reason why anyone wouldn't find some value in The Proposition."

what if he only watches Transformers, Fast and Furious, and Crank all day? he could find it boring and tedious

Ok, I see what you mean.
The OP was asking about the western, so I was assuming he likes western.
