Default PSN No credit card

I called Sony last night and they said pre-paid via cards you buy, at like wal-mart or 711, will not work on the PSN for purchases. After searching 5 random gas stations and grocery stores for PSN cards, I gave up. Has anyone ever actually tried a pre-paid visa/amex/mastercard since the PSN store overhaul and can confirm if they do/dont work? I saw on PSU and another forum that they do, but I trust this place more. Please respond if you know FOR SURE if this does/does not work.

That's what I have but I haven't tried yet. We really need those PSN cards to be OUT already.

I used a pre-paid card before the overhaul, but not since. For some reason my regular bank card always come up as invalid even though a place holder charge of $1 always shows up on my account if I try to add funds. I finally found PSN cards in my local Meijer here in Ohio, it's a Wal-mart sort of store.

I have used them before and I have never had any problems at all. I think you need to register the card first online.

If they are from VISA then you should be fine! Like I said just make sure to register it online first!

In my store they were in the video game aisle, on a peg right there with the PS2 controllers and directly opposite the game display case. Make sure they activate it properly though. My guy didn't know what he was doing and I had to go back and was fortunate enough to get a new replacement.

Same thing happened to me, I incurred 20 bucks worth of 1$ charges, ended up being when you enter your info it HAS to be perfect in every letter, my case I was entering "12a" Street North instead of "12A" Street North.

There is no reason why Pre-Paid VISA card should not work.

If you register the CARD online then its as good as a normal Credit Card. Make sure you have enought for the initial $1 that they take of the CARD (not sure why they do that but they do give it back), So if you want to add $20 funds to your wallet make sure you have $21 buck on there. Anyway works fine here.

If it is issued by VISA then I would think that they are one and the same.

Most gift cards do not allow you to top up, where as some pre-paid cards will allow top-ups thats the only difference from what I understand.

Im still wondering why you dont have a debit card or credit card.
direct deposit?

I had this when i was 18....But if i didnt have it i would just ask my parents to use there card...just 4.99 or 6.99 for something.
If there was psn cards available to use in the stores...then i would say yeah use those...But everyone i know uses there debit card/ credit card and have no problems.

The reason some prepaid cards don't work is because they won't pass address verification. If there is a way to register your address with the pre-paid card than I imagine it will work fine.

As for the $1 charges, they are made as it's really the only automated way of making sure the card is valid and performing the address check. However, just because the $1 charges go through, doesn't mean the address matched.
