Default Billy Bob Thornton MIGHT be the new Freddy Krueger

http://joblo.com/billy-bob-on-elm-st

Seems like an interesting choice. Thornton is certainly a great actor, but it will be so strange seeing a different actor other than Robert Englund playing Freddy.

What do you guys think?

I don't know on this one. Robert has always been freddy. I like Billy Bob and have not doubts he will do a great job. It's a coin toss for me.

There are iconic movie characters who can never be replaced. I firmly believe this is one of them.

This is stupid. Why remake the original??? Billy Bob Thornton is a great actor but its not that easy to replace a legend like Robert Englunds character. Of course Hollywood is going to use their overrated movie magic and try to make things work.

I f*cking adore the original Nightmare on Elm Street, and Robert England IS Freddy Krueger. However, I'm going to go into the remake with an open mind. No matter who's rumored to replace Robert, it's gonna draw criticism from Freddy fans who can't see the role played by anyone but Robert.

Most of me just wishes they'd let this character die in peace, but I'm pretty sure I'll still see the remake on opening weekend. As I said, going in with an open mind, though that REALLY didn't help me out with Rob Zombie's butchered Halloween remake. I'm still pretty pissed about that.

I'm not bowled over at the prospect of Billy Bob. He's a fine actor, I just don't know if I could see him in the part.

Off the top of my head, I think Tom Sizemore could do it. He can be pretty creepy, and I think his track record has shown when he has even semi-decent material to work from, he's a pretty good actor.

Billy Bob might fit in a Nightmare on Elm Street prequel. It'll be about the much younger Freddy Krueger even though he's still ugly.

You know I was complaining when I first read this rumor.... but you are right. I remember what my reaction to Heath playing the Joker was. I couldn't have been more upset. Now I realize that I couldn't have been more wrong. I'll go into this with an open mind regardless of who plays Freddy.

Robert Englund was already confirmed for the new Nightmare On Elm St. movie a while back, though.

Wasn't he?

Default Billy Bob in Elm Street

So we know that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company has plans to remake Wes Craven's horror classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. The entire movie would get the facelift that an appropriate budget would provide, including a new dream-dwelling mass murderer. But who could possibly replace Robert Englund as the iconic rake-handed Freddy Krueger?

How about Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton? It's just a rumor at this point -- but it was initiated by the original Freddy himself. Robert Englund was on the late night radio show Loveline last week to promote JACK BROOKS, MONSTER SLAYER (and discuss sex, I guess), and was inevitably asked about the NIGHTMARE reboot. And Englund stated that the last gossip he heard was that Thornton could be slipping on the sweater and burn makeup for the role.

Englund also claims he's not opposed to being replaced (as he says, he already made the movie), or the remake itself, since he feels it's the sort of movie that deserves a bigger budget for the dreamscape special effects (they ran out of money while making the first movie).

He needs to be the same character he played as Carl in Slingblade. He just invades teen dreams talking of french fried taters with mustard and forces the teens to watch Doyle's band play on the patio. MmmmmHmmmmmm.
