Default Why did Sony not use E3 for these new toys?

I understand they might now be as big to some people as others, but E3 was just a short while ago, and these had to be in development or close to finished at that time...

1. Keyboard that hooks up through the Sixaxis/dualshock3
2. 160GB PS3
3. New PSP
All in October/November

I am not sure if this could be E3 losing value as a venue or Sony not wanting to let the cat out of the bag.

Strange... seems like some good stuff to talk about.

Why not announce it at the Leipzig Games Convention?

A bunch of stuff was announced at E3, why not spread it out so everybody takes everything in?

Well the way I see it is, if they showed all this good stuff, and then Microsoft or Nintendo showed off their amazing stuff which blew the PS3 stuff away. Then no one would really be 100% focused on Sony because of Microsoft or Nintendo's amazing stuff.

At Lepzig, Sony is the only star that's shining, so they might as well, show the stuff that makes their system shine even brighter.

So, am I wrong in remembering that E3 used to be bigger? Or did it just seem that way because of hype and the extra people?

I just seem to remember E3 being the place, and watching the Sony's E3 videos this year was kind of like, eh. Better than Microsoft and Nintendo, but still, eh.

Of course, Sony did blow the others away at E3 without showing this stuff, so maybe that is why... "spread it out so everybody takes everything in"

Sounds like a winner to me.

I am just excited for all three of these!

Exactly I think we need a strong show in Europe and GC is becoming just it.
According to some sources GC is at least as big as E3 or TGS and these kinds of announcements at GC will only make it that stronger

There are 3 major gaming conventions every year for the consumers. 4 if you count PAX. You need to have a significant presence at each of the major 3 because each is in a primary market. Sony was wise to have big announcements at Leipzig. I am shocked that the competitors overlooked it.

Gotcha, so it has always been like this? With major updates for the three markets?

coolbeans.

Currently it is bigger than the way E3 is set up venue wise. That could all chance next year though. ESA has realized that the new private tone is not becoming. I attended this year. I enjoyed it, but everyone said that it was nowhere near what the event used to be.

Going forward, I expect Sony to make major announcements at all 3 conventions going forward. GC will remain a major stage for announcements in the future.

As far as I know, GC has been growing over the year. Europe and the PAL markets are very profitable for gaming companies. Sony is doing exceptionally well in that region. I doubt that another GC will ever pass without a Press Conference from the company.

E3 and TGS were originally the big 2, and GC was the distant 3rd. That won't be the case anymore.

E3 has everyone there (meaning MS, Nintendo and big game companies). Sony is the only one of the 3 console makers to have a press conference there. ALL the attention is on them here. They wont be upstaged and all the focus is on them

Just timing I believe. Some of the games announced very recently were Euro made titles. As for the hardware, like you say Sony just wants to unveil stuff when its only them unveiling.

Makes sense to me.

Can I just say that the USA is NOT the centre of the universe. Everytime a movie comes out in Europe first, playTV or something else you make us get the violins out for ya.
