I wanted to see this movie so bad when it came out, but it had a very limited distribution and played in only one cinema. Now when you consider that the Greater Toronto Area has a population of something like 4 million people, that is an absolute crime.

From all I've heard, this movie got great reviews and I can't wait for it to be released on BD here in North America.

I have wanted to see this as well, but the only copy I have seen online has a horrible russian dub. Be good to see it on Blu. Did they ever work out who is releasing it here? I know New Line and Universal announced it. Obviously Universal is releasing it over in Britain, but do they have the US rights as well?

Roger Ebert said Mongol is pretty graphic. Is that true? Is it more graphic/violent than Rambo?

Except that in the case of Mongol, it's not. A little too much time is wasted in this movie watching the Khan sit there tied up, in a jail cell, on the run etc. While it is important to the story it certainly could have been edited better for a tighter, more evenly paced production. I was also disappointed that the filmmakers did not rise to the challenge of focusing on the Khan's grasp of politics and leadership. There were brief (and effective) glimpses of how he was able to inspire such a large and devoted following, but the filmmakers passed it up in order to pursue the love story and the capture scenarios. With more inspired editing, I don't see why they couldn't have had their cake and ate it too

With that said, the only reason I complain is because I enjoyed this movie so much. Mongol is a great movie with the most touching love story since, well, Wall-E and action pieces that thrilled me in a way I haven't felt since I first saw Braveheart and Lord of the Rings. Highly recommended

It's graphic, but I wouldn't say excessively so. I liked Rambo, but that is a movie with excessive violence ;P
