Default transferring media from external HD to Ps3

Okay I want to move my mp3's to the PS3 and my video files as well.

I'm guessing I can connect it via USB, but once I have done that, is there a special process of doing this? Still not completely familiar with the PS3 setup and all.

Sorry if this has been discussed as nauseum.

Yes, USB cable.

But your have to put your music in a folder labled MUSIC or the PS3 won't see it. (same with VIDEO and PHOTO).

Once connected, hit "triangle" then "copy". It will automatically download to the pre-selected area as listed in your folder - in your case, the music section.

Thank you.

I'm in the process of transferring my external HD stuff that I wanna keep to my laptop, and then I've gotta format the HD so it's set for Fat32 because I heard it won't recognize NTFS

Will it still keep all the folders inside the MUSIC folders separate?

Like all my albums I have, or will it just dump all the mp3s into a single folder? That would suck.

They will all be seperate - however, all artists will go in one folder. (The PS3 does not have a sub-folder system - an issue many have lamented about for a long time.)

So, if you have 3 folders from Coldplay that you import - you'll only get 1 folder on the PS3 with all the Coldplay albums in it - not seperated; but in order of the songs as they were imported. Playlists can not be imported (that I'm aware of) but you can make playlists on the PS3.

Each artist will get their own folder - with any song from the artist in that one folder.

You can also sort on the PS3 by artist, genre and album. I just have mine sorted by artist.

I have mine sorted like this (just a couple examples)

Damien Rice - 0
Counting Crows - August and Everything After
Maxwell - Urban Hang Suite

So by what you said, if I have the following:

Maxwell - Urban Hang Suite
Maxwell - Embrya
Maxwell - Now

all three of those will be merged into one "Maxwell" folder named simply "Maxwell"?

Correct. You will have a Maxwell folder - the songs will be in the order they were imported. So, if you have an album - they will show up in that order.

Put all those Cds (folders) into a folder labeled MUSIC (you may have to place the MUSIC folder in a folder labeled PS3, I forget.) But it should be PS3 < MUSIC < then just copy all your folders of music into that MUSIC folder.

Its just MUSIC. I have no PS3 folder on my HDD at all.

I also answered all these questions in great length in another thread further down. Including the format question.
