Your best RPG ever ??? - Blu-ray Forum

I am fairly new to RPG (played Tomb Raiders years back)...but anyhow, i just had gone thru GOW...and "whoa, what a game!" exclamation point !!!!

Just wondering what would be yours?

I am taking on Devil May Cry next.

Usually RPG is an acronym for role-playing game of which Gears of War is not. I don't play Xbox games, but I do believe GOW is a first-person shooter (FPS). I'm not sure that Tomb Raider would qualify as a RPG either, but I could be wrong on that. If you're using RPG to mean something else, then please enlighten me.

Those are action/adventure games. RPG's are games like Final Fantasy X, Dragon Quest 8, Kingdom Hearts and such.

RPG or Role Playing Game, is where your character interacts with others in an Action or Horror; what have you. Usually I figure this; Besides Mortal Kombat, if you can imagine your Game being a movie- to lots of old school gamers like myself, its an RPG.

If you almost cry when a character gets killed; the things an RPG. For myself, I like the Survival Horror Genre.
1. RE or coarse.
2. Silent Hill
3. Hell, even MGS is an RPG. its just Stealth Tactical as well.

Final fantasy is a RPG but also a Fantasy game.

Dragon Warrior/Quest VII was the last really "great" console RPG I ever played. Highly recommended.

I've basically moved on to the PC for a lot of this, and I'd have to say the last two Elder Scrolls games are my new benchmarks for amazing RPGs.

Regardless of platform: You owe it to yourselves to at least try either Morrowind or Oblivion ASAP.

There was no greater game ever made than the original Resident Evil. The last Elder Scrolls was pretty good and I did love the Final Fantasy series, but when it comes down to it nothing compares to that original Resident Evil.

I think he is talking about God Of War. Regardless it is not an RPG, nor is Tomb Raider.

Resident Evil, like Tomb Raider, is an Action/Adventure game, not a RPG. Come on people, the concept isn't that difficult - geez!

Does anyone know why Final Fantasy has had such a long and successful career, where as Dragon Warrior has all but disappeared? I loved the Dragon Warrior series, but after Super Nintendo, no more of those games came out in the States. I wish whoever made Dragon Warrior would developed a new one for the PS3.

nahhh gears of war is a THIRD PERSON SHOOTER and by far the best next gen video game out there. i think the only game that the ps3 can have that can give gow a run for its money is mgs4: guns of the patriots which i cant wait to come out

both vii and viii came out in the states and they released 4 5 and 6 onto the gameboy and the ds. ix is going to be awesome, but in the states final fantasy has always done better then dragon quest.

I could probably classify close to a pro gamer... started my gaming career with NES 8bit, C64 and x86 with 20MB hd! I've played so many rpgs, but I think I've spent most time with daoc (Dark Age of Camelot)

Final Fantasy VII, without any doubt, there is nothing that ever matched the story and gameplay of FF7, FF8 was good and Z:OOT was nearly there, but Square really hit a home run/scored a hattrick with FF7.

It is because of the PS/PS2.

I totally agree. FF7 totally revolutionized Video RPGs. I did everything there was to do in that game. There were so many side adventures that were great games in themselves (chocobo racing, theme park, etc).

I'd say my favorite was Final Fantasy VII. I remember fighting Ruby, Ultima, and Emerald Weapons for over 10 minutes each. That was nuts! The CG cutscenes worked very well with the overall story. I wonder if Square is still working on the PS3 version of VII? I know I saw a teaser trailer for it.

God of War is not rpg? ok...nevermind.

Anyhow, I preordered GOW2 today at GameStop, and they gave me a Demo Disc of God of War 2 the Colossus Battle..went home and popped it in...and i tell you...i wish that March 15 is here already.
