Question Who owns movie formats older than DVD?

Sure, most of us here have upgraded our collection but since nothing really exciting is happening until the September releases I thought a nostalgic thread might start some friendly chatter.

Multi-choice poll - please vote! I left off DVD because that is pretty much a given for most of us.

Addendum:

I just realized "other" could also mean HD DVD! :-p

I think I may have a VHS player stashed away in the bottom of a closet somewhere.

Yes, but do you still own VHS tapes? I have VHS stuff which aren't movies. A number of them are early computer graphics. Some are short stories, others are just musical interludes.

I do not own DVDs, but the VHS of

Jurassic Park
Apollo 13
The Matrix
Indiana Jones
Quite a few Adam Sandler Flicks (Billy Maison, Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer, etc.)
Alvin and the Chipmunks (Goin to the Movies) series.

Most likely I will just get the blus of all, but the chipmunks.

I recently threw away all of my VHS tapes. Normally I wouldn't do that, but I've been through around 3 VHS players and all of them stopped working properly so it really just became a hassle to keep it around as the VHS tapes became clutter.

i don't really see the need to upgrade from vhs.

toshiba sold me this player that super-dee-duper upconverter that makes all my vhs into fake 1232142p, it takes about 19 days to process one movie, but its def. worth not having to buy into other formats.

I have entire anime series on VHS, especially since they were SO expensive then and I never could part with that...

Seriously though... when I started collecting anime, I could buy a 20 minute episode, subtitled, 1 per tape, for $39.99.

Now you can get the entire series on a DVD box set with extras, multiple language tracts, subtitle options, artwork, etc... all for $29.99.

I have not held a VHS since 2003. Amazing that I can remember that. One of the very few things I miss about VHS is the ability to skip(fast forward in VHS terms) FBI warnings.

I have a number of VHS tapes, but I don't think I watch any of them anymore. I've upgraded them to DVD whenever I could.

It took a while to upgrade "Better Off Dead" and "One Crazy Summer" with John Cusack - I thought they'd never come out. Probably see Blu-ray release in 2014.

I've upgraded a number of my VHS tapes to DVD using a JVC DVD-Recorder/VHS combo. Although it doesn't improve the quality any, at least they're now digitally archived.

Part of my collection of VHS was anime.

I threw away the entire Bubblegum Crisis 2020 series on VHS, lol. Its insane how much you spend on Anime VHS releases especially.

Individual DVDs are around $20 or less... now. But BOX SETS which usually have 4 or 5 discs are usually between $30 and $80 depending on the series and the number of discs, etc.
When I first started getting anime, it was on VHS, and none of it was cheap, and box sets did not exist. You had to buy them all one at a time.

I have a laserdisc and VCR still (and tapes and discs). Both devices are in use and hooked up. The vcr is composite and analog audio, but the LD is SVideo and TOSLink. Both devices are in my Crestron system and getting upconverted to 1080p outputting to the tv HDMI.
