Highdef Digest rated is yesterday

4.5/5 for video quality!

Then again, The Departed got 4.5/5 for video quality, and that wasnt all that impressive.

The Departed rated so highly because it is a VC-1 encode, I guarantee that if it was an AVC encode that looked identical it would get half a star lower, so in essence Pursuit of Happynes is a 5 star film, but HDD just don't want to admit how good it is.

Looks like Sony is finally delivering some stellar video and moved to AVC in the process. That should move them up a few notches in the pq quality chart. The John Legend concert on Blu also got 4.5 stars at HD Digest (MPEG 2). So Sony is mixing them up right now. Maybe all their new releases get the AVC and older titles get mpeg 2. Either way keep them quality titles coming Sony.

I had already planned on purchasing this one, but now I'm anticipating it more and more. Good to see Sony moving to AVC which has starting to show some great results.

Notice he gave the recent Weinstein AVC release (Lucky Number Slevin) only a 3.5/5 for PQ and only 3/5 for audio?

Video:The 1080p MPEG-4 AVC transfer of ‘Happyness’ is excellent. Shadow detail, colors, sharpness, you name it, all is handled with the greatest of ease.
