How has Blu-Ray changed your DVD collection?

At it's best my DVD collection was at around 500.
I've bought and sold alot.

But since BR, im slowly weeding out any DVDs I have that have been released on BR.
I'll no doubt put them in a job lot on eBay.

How has it changed your dvd collection?

I am finding it very difficult to got back to SD after Blu-ray.

It's changing it for the same way for me when I moved from Laserdisc to DVD. I had nearly 300 LD's... and to think of the money I spent on that Offloading most of those was tough.

It is very hard to go back to SD once you have BD. I have a few BD's, but will be buying many more in the next month or so because of the great titles coming up. And ultimately, it's encouraging me to hold back from buying the SD versions of some new titles where the BD isn't available yet as it will be at some point in the future and is simply worth waiting for

luckily, i have both the sammy and ps3. i can at least upconvert my titles for now (still not as good though... obviously)

The last 2 SD titles I bought was Dr. Who and the Daleks, Doctor Who: The Second Series. My DVD collection is also starting to shrink as my BD collection is growing.

Now I already have over 50 BD titles. Yowch.

Right now, I have at least 1,300 DVD titles.

I have all the Doctor Who BBC DVD’s. I figure since this stuff was shot in 4:3 it may never be released on BLU-RAY. Perhaps after 5 years down the road when there might be several thousands of BLU-RAY titles then we might start seeing old standard definition 4:3 NTSC and PAL format TV series on BLU-RAY. BLU-RAY with 50GB discs encoded using MPEG-4 or VC-1 could fit many hours of standard definition quality stuff on it.

It would be nice to get each of the old seasons of Doctor Who on it's own season length disc, which would be entirely possible.

I stopped buying DVD and sold most of them way back in July 2006. I have slightly over 120 DVDs and my sig shows my BD count.

I had over 450 DVD's at one point. In anticipation of BD I cut back heavily. Since the inception in June I have been replacing my favorite catalog title with the blu-ray and HDDVD versions....truth be told, if my dvd's burned up in a fire tomorrow I wouldn't care...just spare my BD's!!!!

Standard DvD dying anytime soon.Maybe in 10 years it will,but I will always buy Blu Ray over Standard if I have that opportunity.Ive been watching Standard on my Blu Ray player and it still looks great to me,so untill the next format comes out and does NOT support standard im not throwing or getting rid of anything.Which im guessing the next format will be here in 2017.

I stopped buying DVD's mid 2005. I put a virtual BD away every week since then. Now I just need to get my hands on them.

It hasn't changed my DVD collection at all, as I never sell off titles. As far as new titles that aren't day and date, I have learned to be patient to await the Blu-Ray, such as Flags Of Our Fathers, Marie Antoinette, etc.

I have over 600 titles on SD, not including the entire Sopranos and Six Feet Under sets. I purchased a PS3 about a month ago, and so far have 3 titles in my collection, with 3 more ordered. My plan (just like when switching from LaserDiscs to DVD) for now is to purchase only new titles that are not currently in my DVD collection and replace only those SDs that are MUST HAVES (GoodFellas was the first and only so far....Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on the River Kwai and about a dozen others are on the MUST HAVE list, when they are released). As the price on BDs begin to fall, then I'll begin replacing more of the SDs. By end of year 2007 I probably will have purchased (or been given as gifts - I make out like a bandit at Xmas time) somewhere between 25-40 titles on BD). I will continue to purchase an SD here or there if it's a title I just can't wait for on BD.

In the past, like 8 years ago, I would often buy nice DVDs and boxsets. But for the last 8 years or so I haven't bought any DVDs, due to the ease of obtaining the movies by other means...

But now with full HD, it seems like Bluray buying is the only way to go about it, so now I am buying a disc almost every week now.

My DVD collection hit 150 movies max but since I bought my PS3 in December, it's gone down to about 30-40 DVDs as I purposely replaced every single DVD with it's blu-ray version.

I'm at 17 blu-ray movies so far (pretty picky with movies) and planning on buying 20+ in the next 2 months.

So to answer your question, Blu-ray has done nothing but good to my DVD collection

Blu-Ray has killed my disc acquisition in general... Unless it's on BluRay.

I've been working on transitioning movies over to BD as they come out, but obviously, most of the ones I have aren't out on BD yet.

Still haven't figured out what I'm doing with my old copies of Stargate and Aeon Flux though. But given that I think I still have my LaserDisc copy of Stargate somewhere, I'll prolly sit on them too :P.

I have sold off 40 dvds in last month. Blu-Ray titles just look so my better on a large screen. Now at 21 titles. Only $ stopping that from being bigger.
