Default NDP PS3 Numbers for January 07

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/854.html

Quote:
View Large Image The past 7 days have been terribly annoying. It's bad enough that the NPD's January hardware sales results were delayed by default, because January is a 5-week sales period. But last week we had to suffer another delay for the numbers, as NPD decided to not release them last Thursday. Allegedly the release of the numbers was to happen today...and it's 10:20PM EST as I write this, and nothing. Likewise, because NPD Fungroup's offices are located just a few miles away from our office here, we don't expect an announcement for another 12 hours, if even.

Bloomberg did manage to score January 2007 sales numbers for the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, though. The numbers were handed to Bloomberg from Credit Suisse, who got their numbers from NPD. Overall, for a console that had absolutely no software released in all of January and most of December, the PS3 fared decently, taking in 244,000 consoles. Surprisingly, the Xbox 360 didn't take in significantly more - it came in with 294,000. But it was the inexpensive Nintendo Wii that took in 436,000 units in sales. We have no idea where the other consoles, including handhelds, stand - but as soon as we do, we'll be on it.

Quick recap:

Nintendo Wii: 436,000

Xbox 360: 294,000

PlayStation 3: 244,000
Hehe, Xbox 360 doesn't look like its doing as well as it should be. Probably because PS3 is new. But still . Can't wait to see these numbers in march after the Euro launch.

I wonder how many BD movies were sold with those 244,000 consoles. I think after next month it will be crazy.

Nintendo Wii Tops PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 in January

(December numbers)

Wii: 436,000 (604,000)
Xbox 360: 294,000 (1.13 million)
PS/3: 244,000 (491,000)

I'm sure a whole new round of (PS/3 stocked to the rafters/I never see any) arguments will begin again.

Considering the lack of games, and the need to redirect shipments to the European launch, the PS/3 did OK.

Notice no mention of Xbox 360 add-ons this month.

Notice that the PS/2 once again beat the Xbox 360. So, combined, the PS/2 + PS/3 has Sony with a commanding console sales lead for January.

800 Xbox (snicker)

January 07 NPD: Complete Hardware Sales

Lmao, 800 is a really embarrasing number
I guess Sony is winning the console war.

Yeah I wonder which console all those 110 millions PS2 users are going to upgrade to with their extensive game libraries ...oh poor microsoft about to be run over even worse than the first time...Is it just me or does GOW2 look better than most 360 games (except AAA titles)...or at least close enough to seal the deal that the 360 is really Xbox 1.5 - and no HD player to boot

Btw the PSP remote play is excellent..even the trailers from the Playstation store (sitting on the PS3 drive) automatically downsize for playback on the PSP. Don't have to do anything special. Just works. I expected music and photos to work I wasn't expecting the video to resize and just play. Just discovered that so thought I'd pass it on..bodes well for BD releases also having PSP content in the future - seems like an easy win for them. Can't wait until they add over the internet remote play as well..

I agree that MS probably not going to win in this generation, but they sure are doing hell of a job on good games and other exclusives. PS3 has the established franchises, but too many unproven new IP for now... At some point, those franchises (FF, MSG, etc) will run out of steam, and we will need new franchises to look to. This is where xbox360 has "some" advantage currently (lost planet, dead rising, bioshock, etc).

Hopefully Sony has secret weapons hidden from us that's ready to rock in 2008 and beyond...

Jan PSP sales were really healthy too, not far behind the DS at all. If only there were more Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII caliber games on the horizon and a comfier, better controlling hardware redesign then I think PSP sales could skyrocket.

Agreed. The lack of a second analog stick on the PSP was stupid.

Default wow

and that's with the PS3 costing more than twice the price of the Wii, and $100-$200 more than the 360!!! On top of that you have to consider the PS3 has a very crappy selection of games, (to date, and we all know that is going to change) and it has only been released in two territories. I can't wait to see the numbers in about 2-3 months.

My main problem with the PSP is the feel/feedback of the analogue nub being quite scrapey/jerky and its uncomfortable location. Even with two nubs I don't think a FPS for example would control well because the nub doesn't move smoothly enough to provide the preciseness you come to expect from playing on kb&mouse or a full size control pad.

I think they could lower the tension on the nub spring or whatever mechanism makes it return back to neutral but that could make the thing wear out much much quicker and it's not like you can just buy another gamepad!

I've found it depends on what game your playing. For example, I find soccer much smoother and tighter on the PSP than on a bigger controller but it certainly a personal thing. But games are just part of the use...I'm really more interested in it as portable media hub for my PS3..i'll be using it way more for that purpose..and having almost identical interfaces makes the transition painless as can be...otherwise your carrying a DS + an ipod etc...much bulkier in the end.
