Default Movies worth a Second Chance

Ever give a movie a second chance? Put another way, did you ever watch a movie - and think it sucked - but watch it again, later, and think it was better - if not the best? If so, why did you consider watching it again?

I'm planning on giving Blade Runner a second chance. I watched it a few years ago. It was a VHS copy and the quality was pretty bad. However, I picked the blu-ray up today at Best Buy for $15. I'm hoping it's worth it.

Some of the movies I've given a second chance to include Star Wars, Ghostbusters, and Alien. I was young when I first saw them - probably way too young to appreciate them.

Casino Royale.

Saw it in the theatres, hated it.

Saw it again on Blu-ray, now one of my favorites to re-watch.

Sunshine.

Saw it as a Blu-ray blind buy, was left feeling "meh" at the end.

Saw it again, liked it enough to watch it every once in a while.

Blade Runner.

Another Blu blind meh...

...but after repeated viewings grasped its brilliance and now love to watch it.

Hot Fuzz - Thought it was a huge disappointment when I saw it in theaters and watched it again on DVD and love it now.

POTC: AWE - Saw it for the first time on blu and put it away for a couple months. I got sick and decided to give it another chance and watched the whole trilogy in a row and while it's still not better than the first POTC, but at least I like it now.

Cloverfield was better the second time. I thought it was really aweful in theatres and watched it yesterday and liked it much more.

Im hoping the same happens with Indy 4. Im pretty sure I will like it better the second time.

I like this thread!!

I find the older I get, I have to be in a mood for certain movies.

For me the biggest disappointing first watch was Harry Potter and the Sorecer's Stone. I actually fell asleep through it. Well on second try it immediatly became one of my favorite movies of all time and prompted me to go and read every book!

Other movies I didn't like, but gave a second chance to include Cars and Narnia: Lion Witch and the Wardrobe. Funny thing is, that if it wasn't for Blu I might not have given them a second chance.

That's a great line about movies and giving them a second chance. I definitely agree with you here 100%! I feel the same way a lot. Especially when I get a great deal on a blu I might have passed up because of a prior "meh" viewing.

I belive I have you all beaten it took me about 5 tries before I loved Mulholland Dr.

The first time I watched it I thought it was one of the worst movies I had ever seen. But it was so well like by critics I gave it a secon and third chance. Now it has to be in my top 5 movies of all time.

I usually try to do that (i.e. watch a movie again or maybe even a 3rd time) before dismissing it completely. A lot of times, I may not like something because of the mood I'm in so I usually try to give it another chance at some point.

Anyway, there have been a few like that recently but at the moment, I'm drawing a blank. I guess I'd list The Fountain but that's not the example I'm trying to think of.

For an old example, I didn't like Dune the first 2 times I saw it but on the 3rd time, really liked it. Over the years, I've grown to like it even more and it's now among my favorites.

Silent Hill - liked the first time, but was bored outta my mind the second time.

Scary movie - Found it funny first time watching it in theater, watched the second time was a snoozefest.

Lets switch it around, people!

Thumbs up

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I hate musicals but after watching it twice, I was able to appreciate the story. It was actually quite brilliant to me.

Just gave Blade Runner a second chance. Saw it a few years ago on VHS. HATED IT, and couldn't even finish it. I just gave it a second chance on Blu-Ray. Watched the "Final Cut." Much improvement over the first time. Some of the scenes were crystal clear, which I really appreciated. Overall the story is still just okay, but Blu-Ray makes the movie itself at least passable in my mind.

For me one of the most recent examples would be Hardware. I saw this at the theater when it first came out and almost walked out. I thought it was just worthless(except for Ministry). A few weeks ago I bought 20 DVD's at the flea market for $10 and it was one, I almost gave it back. I got home and over the course of a week watched all of them but it. After a couple days of sitting on my shelf I grabbed it and played it. I loved it this time around. I don't know if my tastes have changed, or if age and experience just allowed me to pick up some of the symbolism that is missed on a 19 yo. Anyway if your looking for something a little different give it a try.
