Default My plasma Screen Cracked

hi has anyone had thier screen just crack for no reason. I had a 2 year old hitachi 42in plasma and monday night it made a pop sound and the screen went. It has a a crack running from 1 corner to another. Any ideas what could of caused this.

it had plenty of ventilation. Now bought a 40in Sony KDL40W4000 which i am really happy with.

God hates you.

Kidding... but no I've never heard of anything like that... it would obviously be some sort of heating VS. cooling issue... say if the TV runs very hot and the room is rather cold... thats the only thing i can think of that cracks... well anything... without warning... but still very very odd

Could have been poorly assembled causing tension from top to bottom, side-to-side, or corner to corner

It's very odd though.... that much I know..... and if you had it under warranty still, you'd be hard-pressed to convince the store/manufacturer, that it wasn't caused by abuse. (you're not trying to fish for excuses to make a fraudulent claim are you if so, I'd go with "poor assembly, too much tension" )

I'll let you know in a few months. This worries me too as I have a nearly 2 year old 42" Hitachi Plasma. But it is under a 3 year warranty so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the heads up.

beta man we have a 300 quid excess on our insurance so its not insurance job dude.

Only had a warranty of 1 year but i got my new TV from a uk department store called john lewis you get a 5 year warranty with them so i should be ok. I was so hacked off when it went.

Called a repair guy he said it could of over heated but i explained that i vacum the back vents and holes once a month. He said then i could of been just unlcky.

The most annoying thing is on the day it went i bought a HDMI splitter as it only had 1 HDMI port.

That is terrible news . Hopefully they replace your plasma to give you something to attach that new splitter to .

Plasma screens crack- confirmed!

I knew those darn plasma tv's were no good- GO LCD!

Seriously though, that sucks... a lot. I'd contact the manufacturer even if the warranty was up. That's flat-out ridiculous.

Do you have kids? Maybe one of them did it and has not owned up yet.

One of our kids owned up to breaking our rabbit ears while playing a "tossing the ball" kind of game in our living room! Never imagined they would be doing that.

No. He's got a history of spouting plasma FUD around here. Check some of his previous postings.

Its not at all unheard of for something like that to happen. Just relate it back to car windshields. In the winter when you are driving with the heat on and snow falls from your roof onto your windshield there is a chance that it will crack due to the temperature change. Weird things can happen with glass.

Also the slightest fault in a panel maybe caused your crack. It could have been a tiny tiny chip somewhere inside or out that has just finally created an anchor for the rest to crack due to the fault. But then that doesn't really explain the popping noise.

They should definitely replace it for you.
Hitachi don't traditionally score highly on plasma reliability with Consumer Reports. Maybe they'll let you swap for a Viera?

This is why you should change your signature to read "don't listen to much of what I post because it's usually unsubstantiated nonsense that finds little basis in reality"

Go plasma.
