I own The Descent (picked it up used for $13). I hadn't seen it before. The PQ looks pretty good. Nice blacks, lush green images. The movie itself is okay. It's starts pretty slow then finally picks up about 40 minutes in. I watched it with several other people and they made fun of the movie the whole time. But when the 'monsters' came out, everyone got quiet really quick. I haven't watched it since but I wouldn't mind showing it to someone else.

The Covenant is top notch in terms of picture quality. The story is rather formulaic and easily followed. But it's not bad. Kind of movie engineered for youths.

thats cool. yeah i think the covenant seems like a movie in the same kind of engineering as a movie like cry wolf which i liked (i'm 17 now, 15 when cry wolf came out), and highdefdigest gave the covenant 5/5 stars for pq so thats enough for me. and also the descent is supposed to be an actually good horror movie according to rottentomatoes and highdefdigest. and since there are so many awful horror movies out there in the last couple of years, i'm eager to see how different the descent might be then movies like the hills have eyes and all of that wes craven garbage. thnx alot fellas

If not a teenager, I wouldn't bother with The Covenant. I rented this one, but my significant other and me could not make it past the first ten minutes.

I just rented the descent and thought the pq was pretty good, but the movie was only so-so. I don't think it's as intelligent as I've heard some people say it is...it's pretty much a horror flick with monsters. It was saved a bit by the ending in the Unrated version (BE SURE TO WATCH THIS ONE AND NOT THE RATED--it's so much better and all because of 30 seconds added). As for the Covenant...I have yet to get ahold of it but I've been wanting to see the pq for awhile since many say it's good, but overall it sounds like it was made for showing off abercrombie models.

Descent is good. Nothing stellar.

Speaking of nothing stellar...there was 1 copy of AvP at best buy today so I got it.

AvP was a let down. I expected a much cleaner picture. 46" XBR3, hdmi...and it was pretty grainy. Using a PS3 here.

also got the departed. havent watched it yet

Greetings,

I own both the Covenant and The Descent. It has been quite some time since I was a teenager however I enjoyed The Covenant. The Descent was just OK but I have only watched it once and intend to give it another spin.

In terms of picture quality I would rate The Covenant just a bit higher than the Descent overall but both have their strengths.

Sound quality in both respects are top notch.

Although both movies are teenage type films. The PQ is great for both. And "The Descent" has 6.1 PCM and "The Covenant" has 5.1 PCM...

I love listening to the intro song remix of "More Human Than Human (Meet Bambi In The King’s Harem Mix) - White Zombie!" at the start of the movie.

And I'm only playing in toslnk PCM 2.0. I can only imaging what that song sounds like in PCM 5.1 via HDMI.
