Default Hello, everybody!!!

First, I wanna say that I'm very glad to be a part of this world, the blu-ray world.

Here's my question: I'd like to know what kind of audio format will be incorporated in the future discs. Will SACD sound format (DSD) be a part of it? Or it will be the same ones of today, like Dolby Digital, DTS...?

THANKS!!!!!!

Hi BCB, Sony are downplaying SACD/DSD support at the moment, as the initial focus is high definition video - which is currently stuck with low resolution PCM-based multi-channel audio. They may be able to get lossless 7.1, but it is likely to be at basic 48kHz/24bit for some time. Interestingly, DTS are working on a lossless system to provide up to 96kHz/24 bit 7.1 to cinemas, so there is some hope - 'though it's still not really high resolution audio...

Sony have confirmed DSD support to some people, played more cagey to others - to ensure backwards compatibility with CDs, DVDs and SACDs, Sony machines will include DSD support for SACD discs, but not necessarily on BDs (although that may subsequently change). Sony might even release their first universal machine - capable of playing CDs, DVDs, SACDs, DVDAs and BDs - but time will tell...
