Connecting PS3 to Monitor Troubles

Hi there,

I'm trying to connect my PS3 to my monitor, however, I'm running into some troubles.

Here's how my setup normally is:
My PS3 is connected via HDMI to a receiver, and then the receiver sends out the video to my TV via HDMI.

Here's how I want to set this up for my monitor:
PS3 to receiver via HDMI, then receiver to HDMI/DVI adapter into the monitor. The resolution on the PS3 is set to 720p (which the monitor can handle). But here's my problem; the monitor just flashes on and off, and when it's on it's only displaying a black screen.

What's a boy to do?
