They are Paramount films, so they will be dual releases.

Saving Private Ryan was on the paramount internal release schedule earlier this year, but it has since been removed with no word. Might be a spielberg thing.

Ok sorry if this is a stupid question but what exactly does "dual release" mean? If your saying they will be released at the same time, can you find out when that will be?

No, we don't really know when they will be released unless the studio has announced anything specific, and in these cases there have been no such announcements.

Paramount doesn't actually own Dreamworks, so it's still Dreamwork's decision to make when their stuff comes out and on what platform. But if Paramount is still handling their domestic distribution at that time, I would expect dual format support, assuming the war isn't already over. That said, Spielberg is the one with absolute say on SPR, not Dreamworks.

Those are both must have titles. We'll be lucky to see either this year. Pretty graphic the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. The gore in hd might be enough to send a few running to the washroom.

I can't even imagine what the sound on SPR will be like, if presented in DTS Master Audio, which considering Spielberg's connection with DTS, will likely be his preferred codec.

This title would be a treat, in all its grainy glory!
However, I get chills just thinking about all the upcoming threads complaining about the grainy PQ...

And I agree with Chad about the audio. I mean, it alreay sounded pretty damn good in DTS on the SD.

I'd get both (again) on blu-ray...just weighing in. Both are must-haves.

Considering Paramount's track record for lossless audio on both next gen formats (meaning it's absent) I'd be a little worried about Paramount releasing it until they get their act together with lossless audio.

Spielberg's the one that'll insist on lossless. Spielberg and DTS is almost like Lucas and THX. I'm sure he'll want his bigger properties to be available in DTS lossless. Especially JP, since that's the film that premiered DTS. Of course JP would be distributed by Universal. Dreamworks/Paramount/Universal will do whatever Spielberg wants done for his properties, assuming he doesn't get involved more personally.

of course, the "right" way to do it, from the studio's perspective, is to release a half-assed (technically not optimal) version on blu-ray, then a "Spielberg-approved" version a year or two later. Why sell one version when the studio can do a quick blu-ray production and then rake us all over the coals for another $30 a pop after they do it right?

Most of Dreamworks' titles before the Paramount purchase belong to Universal including the ones you just mentioned.

Wasn't Universal/Dreamworks a distribution relationship, and like Sony/MGM changed?

(Now Paramount/Dreamworks and Fox/MGM)
