I had a friend over a year ago to watch Click. The film was funny and all but we did not end up talking about technical stuff, so I don't know if he was impressed or not

That was a while ago so I don't recall what I used. It was probably something from Black Hawk Down or Kingdom of Heaven but I don't remember which particular scene. Lately I've been using a couple of scenes from the beginning of The Ruins (the tree flyover looks really cool with the motionflow stuff on and the scene with the guy running on the beach at the very beginning looks great).

For visuals, the first thing I personally watched was the airplane going down in Superman Returns (Since it was the first BD i bought too).
One of the few things I had been REALLY excited to watch and did so as son as the plastic wrap came off, was the shootout in Fifth Element after the opera. |

Here's an account of my neighbors first BD experience. Chatting with the neighbor last night while he was picking up his mail and we got to talking movies. He mentioned that he hasn't found the time yet to see TDK but really wanted to see it. I asked him if he's gone the Blu Ray route yet and his reply was that he had not seen it up close and personal and thought it was the same as DVD. I invited him in to check out some scenes but he didn't really have much time to hang out but I insisted and promised I'd take up less than 10 minutes of his time...
It was dinner time and I really did not want to keep him from his family because we, too, were just about prepared to sit down ourselves. I had just enough time to have him "experience" the 6 minute prologue of TDK and after the preview he had the biggest smile on his face! First thing he mentioned was the PQ. Better than the theater is what he said. He was really impressed with the overall detail and I must admit I was tickled to see him so happy. Hopefully he goes the BD way in the near future. ![]() |

Not the first thing I picked up, but I like to use the Mercury fly-by scene in
Sunshine for grandeur, Shuttle docking (Blue Danube) in 2001 to show how detailed an old movie can look, Blazing Saddles for color, and the opening chase scene from Casino Royale for Action scene clarity. Also TDK preview for current events wow factor, and Ratatouille for animation wow factor. |

This is a tough one.
Can I wimp out and mention two?? a. Casino Royale: The jumping & chasing scene early in the movie. Clear bright detailed picture. Looks fantastic! b. Apocalypto: The Jaguar chase thru the jungle. My goodness! ![]() |

when i had my screen isf calibrated the other week, the engineer used scene 4 from the Casino Royale Blu-Ray.. its a good scene as it has a serious amount of movement on the screen at the same time.. cars, boats etc..
my first Blu-Ray was Open Season, and early on and still use Planet earth |

For an alternative to action spectacles: The "A;; That Jazz" opening number of "Chicago" where CZJ rises on stage is the closest you'll ever get to 3-D without wearing polarized glasses. For scenic beauty you can't beat "Broken Trail" when the wild horses are being herded over the prairie.
"The Searchers" is my overall favorite film on BD, and the opening makes a very impressive demo when the cabin door swings open and the camera pans out on Monument Valley. |
