Default Alfonso Cuarón should make the next Harry Potter

having watched all the harry potter films the only one i come back to is the prisoner of azkaban, its by far the best adapted of the harry potter films.i think the last film was,nt very good, maybe thats down to the book being the weakest of all the books but it felt it was just being made by the numbers, and the same director has made half blood prince which for me does,nt bode very well.i think prisoner stands alone as the best and thats down to alfonso,he should make the last one for the series to end on a high.

Me I've prefered by far the last director than any others (but I'm not a big fan of Potter)

Considering the negative buzz around the latest film due in 2009, my concern is with J.K.Rowling. I mean how can she let her books be belittled by inferior movie adaptations and say or do nothing about it ?

I still don't understand why WB didn't go the Lord of the Rings route with these films.
Theatrical cut with greatly expanded directors cuts.
I loathe David Yates as a Harry Potter director. In interview, he's indicated his goal with Order of Phoenix was to adapt the longest book into the shortest movie. This is a terrible goal. Your goal should be to adapt it as skillfully as possible.

In terms of the adaptations:

Philosophers Stone: Perfect
Chamber of Secrets: Improves upon the book a bit
Prisoner of Azkaban: Could have been perfect with the inclusion of a few more details
Goblet of Fire: Could have been perfect if Quidditch Riot was more developed
Order of Phoenix: Raped

I dread what I'm hearing he did to Half Blood Prince.

While I'm glad to know that Deathly Hallows will have some breathing room with 2 movies, I'm distressed this wasn't done with OoTP and am saddened to know the same director will be involved.

I agree with Alfonso Cuarón. He could bring the right balance of darkness and playfulness to the last book adaption.

Agreed on all but #4. IMO Goblet lacked any of the mystery of the book when they:
[Show spoiler]showed Barty Crouch Jr. with voldemort and at the quidditch world cup
. The fifth is the worst adaptation and poses many continuity issues
[Show spoiler],room of requirement anyone?

My brother keeps complaining that none of the movies have the Dumbledore summation at the end other than the first one.

The 5th Harry Potter was the worst book and the best movie. Purists will not agree because so much of the fifth book was cut, but that is EXACTLY what made Order of the Pheonix such a good movie. The prior movies in general stuck extremely closely to the plot of the books. When translated to the screen that strategy made things 1. confusing and 2. large plodding sections that made the movies feel interminable at times. Although Goblet of Fire moved in the right direction, it still had a bit too much Quidditch and a little too much moping on Harry's part. Phoenix was the first movie that was nearly perfect, with just the right mix of action, introspection, and characters both familiar and new. In addition, the acting (especially by the three leads) set a new high for the series, and the "new" Dumbledore wasn't as annoying as he was in movies 3 and 4.

I do agree that there was slight overcompensation in the direction of brevity. Harry's romance with Cho was dropped rather abruptly (although to be fair that is more Rowling's fault than it was Yates). But the challenge of adapting 6 and 7 coming up, I suspect Order of the Pheonix will be the best we see of Harry on the big screen.

I think Gullermo Del Toro should make it, he was offered it, but he turned it down.
