I recently purchased Superman Returns on Blu Ray and after watching the movie for about 20 minutes the entire PS3 turns itself off. I tried again and fast forwarded to a later chapter and again after about 20 minutes the unit shut down. I disabled the wireless internet connection as I read in other threads it's caused a freeze but have the same problem (unit turns off completly). I tried a different Blue Ray movie The Prestige and have not had an issue with the unit turning off.

I haven't had any problems with the PS3 turning off, but I did have it freeze up a number of times while watching Casino Royale. I brought the BD back and got another copy of Casino Royale and now it's fine. I'd start with returning the disc and trying another copy of it.
