Default Amazon.com Prime subscription.

Well I hope this is the right place to post this.

I logged onto my amazon.com account today, and it had a box that says I qualify for the one month free trial to Prime.

Now I know what Prime is and who is eligible, and I am in Canada and do not qualify, but for s*its and Giggles I decided to do the trial subscription to see when it would tell me that I do not qualify....

Huh? It let me go through one page, 2 pages 3 pages and let me submit the offer. Well I was smart enough to choose initially a credit card that is not valid but still on my account, because it said failed authorization.

In "My Account" it even stated that my address did not qualify for the offer and that I would need to change my address to take advantage of free shipping. Not that I couldn't subscribe!

I deleted all my cards on file and wrote them an email that basically said that they should not have qualified me and should never have accepted the submission if I was not in a region that qualifies. That this must be a blatent attemt for aquiring $ from people who are just too lazy to fight for the charge on their cards 30 days down the road.

Does anyone else see a real problem with this strategy? or am I alone in seeing this as a scam. After all, any junior programmer can qualify an application like that...Country = USA - positive - continue... otherwise - send rejection notice.

I now need to delete the account and seriously consider if I want to do business with a company that would pull something like thiis.

Flame away.

Regards,
Paul

Maybe your right, but its based on principle, it really irritates me that had I not followed up, I would get xharged in a month for something I cant use. Not everyone would realize this (older or unsavvy internet users for example) and might just figure it would go away. Until they see an $89 charge on their statement 6 weeks from now. (Talking Canadians only here now OF COURSE).

well credit cards are usually tied to thier billing addresses. and if your using a credit card 9 times out of 10, the shipping is the same. many people have different addresses on file just so they can ship gifts. anyway, i dont see the big conspiracy.

I think its more an issue of them not wanting to assume everyone who created an account in Canada still lives in canada.

I still think that if there is nothing to indicate you are in the USA or don't have an alternate address for the USa, it should decline you and give you the option to add one prior to taking the subission. But it doesnt and they are just willing to hit credit cards with no qualifying process (Granted after 30 days). But isn't that referred to reverse billing or something...the cell phone companies got nailed for that here, you used to get xx months free of service and if you didn't drop it they kept on billing you, now the feature has to auto drop if you dont call in to continue the feature.

It is an opinion that I am sure I am not alone on but I know others will disagree with which is fine, but I wanted to let other CDN forum users be aware they don't qualify unless..., so if they see that box don't get duped.

Regards,
Paul

Its computer automated to advise you that you are qualified, You are on the .com site. When I go to the .co.uk site I am offered prime as well, DO I take it personally, No! Have i tried signing up for it knowing I am not qualified, NO. SO whats there to be mad about? Its suggestive selling and a common business practice.
So what are you expecting in response to the complaint? I hope not a personal response because its gonna be a preselected automated response

I want to make sure you guys understand one thing...I write all this with a light heart and no ill will, just a personal viewpoint. Everyone has one and once in a while there is someone that rubs someone else the wrong way and they feel they just want to let others know how they feel they have been wronged. So this is my story

As I said earlier, maybe you are right. But as the wife reminded me this morning...I am frigging (polite word) crazy (no joke, nut still relatively normal ) so it makes sense for me to react the way I do to something like this. I still think that if I had a primary or secondary address that reflected the USA then it should qualify me for it...Advertise as practice dictates (as below mentions), but shouldn't be allowed to sign up if I do not have the stats to reflect it.

Now you say...What if I change my mind and want to ship to a USA address later?... Let me stop you right there, go back to the crazy comment... If I changed my mind (take that literally), then we (wife and I) wouldn't need medical benefits due to the obscene cost of the meds for me to remain un-crazy , and then this thread and all that exist would not be. Now how fun would that be? It may very well have changed the course of history as we know it and we may very well could have all been blown up by hostile aliens sometime between now and last night when I was wronged!!!

Yeah I actually received a personal reply today (or what seems like one).
It went along the lines of we have members that live outside US and ship to US addresses. It was of course nice and polite but no matter, i placed all my pre-orders with amazon.ca last night and got free shipping on all of them. Pay a bit more for some movies but I get them on average, about a week sooner approximately.
But, because I am loony, I will probably cancel them all at one point or another and re-order from somewhere else later down the road before they are released.

The one thing we can be rest assured of, (Start fading in the Heroic unionizing them of choice about here) is that this forum is top notch for the most part filled with loads of guys and gals with Class and respect for one another, and don't take any opportunity to personally attack one another for our views and opinion (make theme song louder here) like in some nuthouse forums out there. We all have one common goal that unites US ALL...(Top volume now) We want quality of Sound and imagery that makes us believe we are in the heart of the action in that movie "Iinsert favouite title here" (fad down theme here), and that, my friends, is BLU-RAY and Lossless Audio.... (stop music in head...or was that just me?)

OK, now my wife saw me rambling and just brought me my morning meds. I am off to the dentist and coming home to watch a flick. God this took a while to type up properly, I hope you all get it...I'm a nut job, and finally able to admit it!

Regards,
Paul
(the Joker ain't got nothin' on me with his nut ball mind)

P.S. Any other nut jobs out there, please feel free to come forth and express your thoughts as scrambled as they may be

Lets all give a big shout out to the creator of Blu-Ray.com

I agree, if the initial info entered isn't valid they shouldn't allow you to subscribe. It does seem like an easy way to take advantage of people that may not understand what they're doing.

look around. everything is set up that way. i just saw a commercial about easy money from home online. small print pretty much said the commercial is b.s. but people will call. and people will make them (not themselves) money. you cant expect other people to hold your hand.
