I am looking to spend around 800 bucks on a new 7.1 receiver and speakers. I was looking for something that i could use to watch blu-rays (of course), dvds, listen to records, cd, maybe dvd-audio or sacd (my dvd player supports them if i do i need something with 5.1 analog) my zune, and stream media from pc through ps3. I was wanting something with like 3 or 4 hdmis, and upconversion (I have been looking at the Onkyo 606). I was also wanting something so i could biamp the L/R speakers for listening to music. I don't care if it does multiple rooms (it is going in a small bedroom with my Samsung LN40-A550), I also need the 4 surround speakers to be able to wall mount (not floor standing i could most likely make something to hang bookshelf speakers). I would like it support all of the formats the ps3 does (dolby true hd and that other uncompressed one), like i said i would like 5.1 or 7.1 analog inputs (sacd needs them). I want something that is loud but doesn't have to be super loud. Also i don't need a sub right away because i have a decent one.

With all honesty and respect for 800 you aren't gonna get much especially if that is including the receiver. For example the 606 is probably the best bang for the buck at aroun 370ish. You might be able to pick up an older 605 for little less. The 605 is able to handle all audio formats as well. So that just leaves you with around 400-500 for a a 7.1 speaker system. With that kind of budget I'd rather get a decent 5.1 or even a 3.1 system and get the rest of the speakers later. But if your looking for just 4 surround sound speakers might I suggest going with 4 def tech promoniter 800s. I have them and for the size they put out great sound and at only 120ish each. The only reason why I suggest to reconsider your choices is that I tried to fit my budget and ended up getting some cheap speakers and that was a total waste of 500 bucks. The sub wasn't as strong as I wanted, the surrounds had only 1 driver compared to the 800s which have 3, and I knew that things could be way better and I wanted that. In the end I changed everything out including the receiver. Just don't want to see people making the same mistake I did.

Onkyo 908 might serve your purposes well. If you want, you can buy the speakers and receiver separately and save some cash (not getting the ipod dock or DVD player). There are also some Polk systems (RM6750?) that Crackinhedz is always recommending. I expect him to poke his head in shortly with some great links for you to check out!

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S7100...0869238&sr=1-3 Another option is to buy a better quality receiver+speakers. I bought this back in February.
Onkyo HT-S990THX 7.1 THX Home Theater Entertainment System ![]() http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FNFU16 It's current price is $860, however when I purchased it the price was down to $736 with free shipping. I'm new to the audio game so I'm not an expert on all the specs, but these speakers give a nice full rich sound. I can only imagine that when I upgrade the speaker wire and actually get my receiver to the correct settings, this will be a set up to last quite a long time. Great bang for the buck. Second edit: After reading your initial wants for a 7.1 set up, this most likely will not be what you wanted. No HDMI and large speakers. Sorry! Last edited by Drew664; 09-08-2008 at 07:07 PM. Have you looked at the Onkyo HT-S6100? It's basically the replacement for the HT-SP908. It's only about $600 at CC right now. That puts you in considerably under budget. It doesn't come with the greatest speakers out there, but they're not bad either. It's a 7.1 system, can handle your PS3's blu-ray audio and has 4 HDMI inputs.
