If the OP's question was being taken seriously, the results would be disasterous. There are hundreds of people who will each have varying opinions on what THE BEST RELEASE TO DATE is. So, this question will probably only cause the OP more confusion than resolve any curiosity.

Based on what I have seen so far (and I have not seen all that many BD's so I may not be the best authority on the subject) but I will say for PQ, Cars to me looks incredible. I always use that to show off the BD player to anyone who wants to see.

this is just too subjective to be of any use... i know people frown upon the 'tier' thread on another forum... but maybe we should have something here like that just so as to avoid the almost daily thread of which is the most awesome disc you've watched... which release has the best audio, which disc has the best picture, which disc has the best extras etc...
then never mind what the disc is like, you have peoples own impressions and the equipment they use to watch films that will color any results... like a disc may look amazing to me on my 40 inch 1080p lcd.... but it may not look so hot on a 100 inch projector screen... also what sounds amazing to me.. with my surround sound setup may have its flaws revealed on a more expensive setup.. alot of people have told me i dont have 'good' enough speakers to hear the benefit of losseless audio but it sure does sound better to me than compressed dolby digital then you have inconsistent reviewers who say a picture is great cause its how the director intended and on another disc they may say it looks crap... even though that 'may' have been as the film was meant to look e.g. Dracula gets a lot of stick cause people say the sd dvd looks better, but if the director signed off on the master used for the blu-ray why isnt it getting top marks for picture? then you have people opinion of the actual film itself... someone might mark a film like No Country for old men as a 5 wheras someone else might have thought it was just ok.. and mark it 3... but the general consensus due to awards etc would move that mark upwards.. Take Forgetting Sarah Marshall for intance... most reviews i've seen give it high marks for a comedy.. whereas i didnt think it was nearly as good as knocked up, anchorman or old school.. but then i'm sure there are others who thought it was class... maybe it needs repeat viewing? When i first watched the simpsons movie i thought it was average but watching it again recently i found myself enjoying it a lot more... ok... this is sleep depravation talking so i better stop now.. cheers, mick |

whats a good movie to me, might not be one to you.
however, i'd say the best Blu to date is probably Pan's Labrynth: A grade PQ, AQ, and it has 96% rotten tomates rating, higher than almost every Blu released. I know I know, critics are critics, but it is one objective factor to answer the "best movie" question. |

I agree with what some others have stated about it being subjective, coupled with different hd setups, home theaters spec etc.
I think a somewhat universal way to answer this would be "which movie looks much better on BD than it did on DVD or even an HD movie channel"...to me "Ratatouille" and "Cars" look much better than their regular versions. the details are that much more apparent and I can't imagine the PQ being any better, its truly flawless. however, it seems that newer animated movies are MADE for blu ray and LCD screens so is it even fair to compare them to something like Clockwork Orange, which looks great and much better than it's original release but place a set next to one another and it can't really compare. |
