Requirements:

PowerBook G3
PowerBook G4 Titanium / Aluminum
iBook G4
Mac mini
iMac G5
iMac Intel
MacBook Pro
Mac mini

What I don't understand is... why can a PowerBook G3 use the drive but not a PowerMac G4?

What gives?

One step closer to Apple making this standard. Come on Apple! This is the only thing holding me back from a purchase!

I'm no mac guy, but perhaps the problem lies with design? Was the G4 redesigned, so maybe the drive wouldn't fit in it, versus older models? Don't know, just throwing that out there.

I don't see how that's possible. It's perfectly capable of using 2 optical disc drives.

I might have to pick this drive up this summer when I order my new Macbook PRO. Just in time for school in the fall. I think it would be funny to D/L the HD-DVD rips and burn them to BD discs... Maybe I can get Universal films after all...

Getting the Mac crowd is GREAT for BD. Those people are so fiercely loyal that they'll immediately support Blu-ray.

Im definitly thinking about it, but $800? Not sure I would use it enough to justify that. Although i could use my lap top to play blu-rays on my other tv. Hmmmm

I actually play the PC game Company of Heroes from my laptop and connected to my DLP. Using a DVI to HDMI connection. Truly a joy to experience!

Now Blu-ray for my laptop that would be sweet! But I agree the price is the show-stopper. $800.00...?

This the capabilities list
Quote:
Fastmac's slimline Blu-ray slot loading optical drive upgrade requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher and is compatible with the following Apple computers:

iBook G4
iMac G5
iMac Intel
MacBook Pro (17-inch)
Mac mini
PowerBook G3 Pismo
PowerBook G4 Titanium (667 Mhz or higher)
PowerBook G4 Aluminum

Blu-ray burning requires 3rd-party software such as Roxio's Toast 8 Titanium, which enables Blu-ray disk support in the Mac OS Finder, and Blu-ray media (sold separately). Native support for Blu-ray burning within iLife & iTunes is expected in the future via Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, but cannot be guaranteed at this time.
It lists MacBook Pro 17 as one of the compatible laptops.

Is there that much of a difference between the 17 and the 15? I thought optical drives for the macbook are standard size.
