Question Total Recall UK

I have seen from reviews elsewhere that the UK version has much better (4+) video quality than the US one reviewed here and that it is also region free. Can anyone confirm that?

Yes i own it and it's by far better than the Lionsgate release. Whats particularly impressive is how the Blu-Ray handles all the red in the film so well.

Import it i guarantee 100% you won't be disappointed

Thanks for all the replies. What is the news / purpose of the UK re-release; is it going to fill in some extras or something else?

I know of no re-release. Optimum can barely do one decent release,(Escape From New York was terrible, Army Of Darkness is the shorter US cut, Cliffhanger has sound issues and They Live has been delayed for whatever reason), of a title.

If you like Total Recall a lot do not hesitate and purchase the UK import now. Lossless audio and a slightly better picture quality for the win. It can be had pretty cheap at Amazon.uk

Default Total Recall US Mindbending Edition vs. UK Ultimate Rekall Edition

Hi,

Does anybody happen to know for sure whether the US Mindbending Edition is the same as the UK Ultimate Rekall Edition?

Thanks!

I purchased Total Recall Special Edition 6 months ago, on sale in Australia, before reading of the fact that there is an inferior MPEG-2 transfer.
I was pleasantly surprised when I put the Blu Ray in and saw it was a Studio Canal release with MPEG-4 AVC transfer. Great PQ and AQ.
The Studio Canal transfer is completely uncut The BRD has an Australia MA15+ rating, which is similar to a US R rating. (Our R18+ is similar to NC-17/Unrated. Though, sometimes Unrated US movies still pass with a MA15+ rating). VHS versions, and the theatrical release, which were rated M (cut). However, on release to video, there was an R version, which was only on VHS (not in theatres) and hard to find.
Then in the 90's, the Australian Office of Film and Literature added a MA15+ rating, allowing for the uncut MA15+DVD release. (The MA15+ ended up changing many movies that were M or R to the MA15+ rating. Examples: Clerks was R, then changed to MA15+ - Platoon was M, then changed to R and is now MA15+).

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
Does this mean that the Australian Special Edition is the same as the US Mindbending and the UK Ultimate Rekall? The US Mindbending and the UK Ultimate were released in July 2012, and the Aussie SE was released in August 2010. If these three editions are the same that would mean that the Aussie version was published 2 years before the US and UK versions. Could this be the case, because that would be interesting. I am wondering why?

Quite sure the 2010 release is not the same as the new 2012 releases.

Thanks.
And what do you think, which one is better, as far as PQ is concerned? The 2010 release, or the new releases?
