Default The only time I find Bad PQ acceptable...

I mainly love blu-ray for the PQ, but I also love the poor PQ of an old movie's trailer. It kinda brings you back in time. Of course the full movie PQ better be 5 star!

The only time I find Bad PQ acceptable...

is when the bad quality is still better than the DVD transfer.

I never find it acceptable, it better be good or I don't buy it.

Can't say I've ever found poor PQ acceptable myself, nostalgia or otherwise.

Interestingly enough, there are people who don't like particular films in the highest quality possible because they feel it changes the mood and reveals a lot more detail than it should. I'm specifically talking about some who are very reactionary to horror movies with bright, pristine prints on Blu Ray.

I'm starting to HATE HD/1080p...
It's ruining a LOT of TV shows and Movies...
I can TOTALLY tell it's NOT the actual actor, but thier Stand-in!!!!

Oh, man, that was possible even with Pan and Scan VHS. In Goldeneye, it's so obvious that Pierce Brosnan was NOT doing the running on top of the dam at the beginning of the movie!!!

Well, in Wes Craven's Scream, the first scene that shows Neve Campbell's character, Sidney Prescott, being assaulted/attacked clearly shows a different woman in her place, presumably her stunt double. But honestly, I don't think 1080 is to blame as you notice similar details on DVDs as well. 1080 does make television shows from the past look like sh*t though, that I agree. The Golden Girls look wretched on my Dad's TV.

But yeah, again, there are those who "prefer" poor quality releases because it gives the film an old-school feeling and it makes them "authentic" and "real".....Whatever that means.

If you can tell on a 1080p TV, then you could certainly tell at the theater with a 40 foot screen. Don't blame HD.

Of course, I'd love every single movie ever made to have perfect PQ. If it doesn't...oh well, I can tolerate it most of the time. Just as long as it's not like "Ong Bak," which still stands as the worst PQ I ever saw.

I do kind of appreciate the appearance of some older films DVD transfer over BDs for the grindhouse nostalgia, but this could be implemented by software on players to apply a fake grindhouse filter to otherwise perfect PQ.

I've experienced this myself. For the most part, I love blu, but on rare occasion I've come across a film that looks video-like because of the transfer.

That is not new, even on my old 19inch Zenith in 1978 I could tell the stunt guy over William Shatner in the fight scenes
