So I currently have my PS3 connected to directly to my HDTV, which is then going into my Home Theater system through composite audio cables. First of all, is that the best option to get the best audio possible out of everything connection into my TV through Component and HDMI, and should I change the way I have my PS3 connected? The other option is with an HDMI cable going first to my Home Theater system, then outputting another HDMI cable from the receiver to my TV. Would that be the best option, or do I have it set up properly now?

By far that's the best. You're getting the sound to the receiver, and if it's not a passthrough you'll get the best sound from it as well as being able to use PCM to hear all the HD codecs. The other choice leaves you at the mercy of your TV's ability to pass on the sound.

1. I have a video game switchbox with Composite game systems N64, GameCube, Dreamcast, SNES and Wii. That one is fine, no worries about those. 2. DVD player using component and Coax Audio cable from player to reciever. This one is fine. 3. XBOX 360 with HDMI through my TV. 4. PS3 with HDMI through my TV. 5. DVR Box with HDMI through my TV. I need to make sure the last 3 connections have the best sound quality possible. On my receiver, I use the TV Audio In to accept the TV Audio Out composite cables from the TV itself. I use the TV option on the receiver's remote to hear the audio for devices 3-5, and the DVD player has its own function. PS3, I'll connection it with HDMI-to-Receiver, Receiver-to-TV through HDMI, but how can I be assured I'm getting the best sound for the XBOX 360 and my DVR Box? Right now, the sound is going through the Composite audio cables from the TV Audio Out on my TV through the TV Audio In through the receiver, but they are plugged up through HDMI. Is the receiver picking up that it's connected through HDMI first, or is it picking up the Composite audio cables from the TV? |
