It is a problem that it will likely not supporrt BD-ROM.

Who will spend money on a recorder that cannot play back the pre-recorded discs?

I think they would be wise to wait until they can support the BD-ROM spec.

It's unfortunate that the specification for BD-ROM still hasn't been decided, so there isn't much they can do about it. However, it should still be useful as a HDTV recorder, which is the main feature anyway.
