Default Rear Projection vs. LCD

Can anyone (from first hand experience) tell which one is better? The 1080P LCD from Sharp (37'' XD1E) or the Sony KDS-55A2000 AEP rearprojection TV (this the German model description, but you know, the 55'' 1080P SXRD)? Could anyone do a side by side comparison?
Watching movies will always be done in a dark room, turning it on quickly to watch the news is not crucial for this comparison.

Thanks for your opinion.

I haven't actually seen these two in action but i am pretty confident that the SXRD would be better are is sports 10,000:1 contrast ratio and all sort of other nifty features.

You'll definitely notice the 1080p more on the SXRD over the other one IMO

Bigger = better. I'd get the 55" Sony.

LCD has two qualities that are better than SXRD:

1) Smaller footprint
2) Reflective screen

So unless you have to worry about space or direct sunlight, I'd go with the SXRD (and did!).

Thanks for the input. I just read in a German Hometheater magazine, that the SRXD isn't as sharp as a direct view panel. Is this something you have noticed in direct comparison? They also said that the Sony SRXD has a slight overscan that cannot be turned off. That would be a shame. But still, it is a very tempting TV to own, just for the size/price ratio alone...

Anything that goes through a lens is not as sharp as looking at the image directly. (*looks at Blackraven). But would this difference make you prefer a smaller image than a bigger one, that's up to you.

I have both types. I own a Sharp Aquos 37" LCD (37D90U) and a Sony 60" SXRD (KDS-R60XBR). It has been my experience that the Sharp LCD has the "brightest" picture with a 12,000:1 contrast ratio and is simply amazingly sharp. Where the Sony SXRD outshines the LCD is in rapidly moving pictures or scenes. It is an inherent "problem" in LCDs that you get slight ghosting with very fast moving scenes.
