When you say HD movie do you mean HD as in Hi Definition, or HD as in HD-DVD? If you mean HD as in HD-DVD, that's the problem - HD-DVD's won't play in a BD (Blu-Ray) system - they'll only play in a HD-DVD player.

Same with BD's only playing in a BD player.

I have a LG - BD-rewriter, and It does play both HD-dvd and Blu-ray discs. I believe most of the LG drive comes as a dual player.
What is your model #?
Do you have a right software to play?
Does the region code match?

Is your PC on? joking..

Yeah Hank, but he specifically said writer, and that generally implies a PC system, not a console player. Of course if LG is selling dual playing consoles I suppose at some point maybe their writers will too, but I don't know of any yet. Could be wrong though...

PowerDVD8 doesn't work with HD-DVD (no support) you will need version 7.3 or earlier for HD-DVD (version 8 only does Blu-ray).

lucky for you that both versions are able to be installed on a system or try to find a different software player (haven't tried WinDVD or others so can't tell you which ones will play both sry.)

WinDVD 9 and TotalMedia Theatre will both play HD-DVD's. Here's the OP's other problem, Power Producer will not playback commercial BD's - He needs PowerDVD,TMT, or WinDVD 9 w/BD.
