Blu-ray.com and MGM Home Entertainment are offering three lucky Blu-ray.com members the opportunity to win a copy of Platoon, the harrowing, Academy Award-winning war film from director Oliver Stone starring Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe and Forest Whitaker, among others. The film not only took home a Best Picture Oscar , it earned Stone a Best Director win. Its Blu-ray debut arrives Tuesday, May 24th.

Blu-ray.com members can earn two separate entries in the contest:
  • To earn one entry in the giveaway, simply participate in the Classic War Films Poll attached to this thread. (There are no right or wrong answers.)
  • To earn a second entry, post a comment on the Platoon Giveaway post on the Blu-ray.com Facebook page. (Members are welcome to "Like" the giveaway post or the Platoon page on Blu-ray.com. Just keep in mind that "Likes" appear on your Facebook friends' News Feeds; comments do not.)
The contest is open to all Blu-ray.com members (membership is completely free, click here to join). Entrants will never be asked or required to post any personal information whatsoever on Blu-ray.com or Facebook, and will only ever be identified by their Blu-ray.com username. After claiming their prizes, winners will be contacted exclusively via Blu-ray.com private messages. Winners will be asked to provide a valid mailing address as well, but their personal information will not be shared or retained in any way. Maintaining our membership's privacy is of the utmost importance. The contest will close on Tuesday, May 24th at 11:59pm EST, and three randomly selected winners will be contacted soon thereafter.

Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam, Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter. All good for different reasons, and equals in my book.

I voted Full Metal jacket as for a movie that better describes the Vietnam war , but also i really like Apocalypse Now and Deer Hunter

Apocalypse Now, all the way. Personally, I prefer the pacing of the original Theatrical Version, but I do like Redux also. All around just an AMAZING film... Platoon is close but I don't think anything will ever top AN to me...

Full Metal Jacket -- definitely not the most realistic, but I think the most entertaining/enjoyable of the choices.

There's only 3 films on that list that I even respect enough to give serious thought: Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket. The Deer Hunter isn't even really a "Vietnam War film", your just as likely to include Forrest Gump on that list as you are The Deer Hunter.

Tough call. Those are all great movies. But in the end I went with We Were Soldiers.

1) Platoon
2) Apocalypse Now
3) Full Metal Jacket

The rest of those films are good, but they don't come close to these three. Platoon is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever.

I pick Platoon! It's the first Vietnam war movie I saw at the theaters and really made an impact on me. Can't wait to watch it on Blu! Been waiting for it!

I'm torn between Full Metal Jacket, We Were Soldiers, and Good Morning Vietnam.

All the titles on the list are excellent though, so choosing one was hard I went with FMJ.

I picked Apocalypse Now.

Along with seeing the original Star Wars in the theatre way back when, no other movie mesmerized me as much as Apocalypse Now!
