ps3 over stand alone blu ray player

Hi

I had a search on the forum but it didnt bring up much responses.

Im going to be getting an HD tv so was wondering what Blu-Ray player to get, my sister was saying she would go halfers with me on a PS3 as my nephew wants one and it has blu-ray (plus I would play it too lol).

Now what I was hoping you could answer me is the PS3 a good blu ray player or would a standalone player be better?? i know things like firmware upgrades etc need done and some players have problems with future upgrades but is that the same with the PS3? is the picture quality just the same? just actually everything related to whats better Stand alone player or ps3.
any advise would be great.
