Default Dts-es 6.1?

Does anyone know if you can play DTS 6.1 sound through a Playstation 3? Are there a lot of Blu-Rays with 6.1? Is it worth the upgrade? I already have 5.1 and I am thinking of buying another center just for fun.. Am I right when I think that 6.1 is an extra center in the center back?

Thanks

Hi, i can't answer the PS3 part of you're question, but there aren't that many 6.1 titles available that ive seen, and you need a rear surround speaker in the centre behind, not a centre speaker.

Lord of war is a DTS ES 6.1 config the 6th channell is basically a surround back which is now 7.1 channel, its not like the center channel where the dialogue is coming from, your ps3 should be able to decode it but you have to have a receiver that has 6.1 or 7.1 channel

6.1 DTS-ES is mainly available in many of my favorite DVD titles such as Gladiator, LOTR, Top Gun, etc. Unsure how many Blu-rays have it.

But yes, your PS3 can bitstream DTS-ES, seeing as it is not a lossless codec.

It isn't exactly a center back, so you could use whatever speaker you wish, not just a center channel. Heck, I'm using a floorstander.

And to increase your soundstage and the sensation of different sounds in your room, it is worth it.

Yes your PS3 can output DTS 6.1. but your receiver needs to be able to decode it as well. DTS 6.1 is very popular on Asian DVDs which I have many. It is the best "lossy"sound you can get

stick with 5.1.
6.1 & 7.1 are just 5.1 soundtracks with select sounds from your surround speakers thown into ch. 6 and 7 (even on a blu-ray disks)

You might want to rethink this statement.

Yes but uhhh... some of those sounds are supposed to be "thrown" into the extra channel. Hence DTS ES and Dolby EX... But 7.1 vs. 6.1 isn't as big of a leap as it is from 5.1 to 6.1.
