Default Low frequencies more punch near the wall?

If I have my couch just a few inches near the opposite wall of the TV,can the low frequencies be well heard with more punch?, rather than having the couch in the center of the room?please clarify? Whenever i go and stand near the wall i can hear the bass very well.but When I sit and watch the movie in the couch which is now in the center of the room i dont feel the bass that much..So having a wall just behind the couch.. does it affect the bass in any way??

Right now I cant place my couch near the wall because of the room plan and the furniture placement..

Wow i have the same problem as you. my sub is near my room door,so its kind of in a coner but my door is there also.
i have good bass at seating position, but when move diagonal towards the other corner( an actual corner with no door way) i get better bass. i think i have a null at 80hz.

So I guess the bass can be heard well within the parallel walls with the couch being just few inches away from the opposite back wall? Any more opinions?

Personally, i'd leave your couch in the middle. You'll probably get way too much bass up against the wall and you'll probably miss out on much of your rear surround activity if your too close to those speakers as well.

Right. A very common mistake I see with most of the setups posted here is that people have their speaker much too close to the walls. And putting speakers (especially subs) in the corner is the worst crime of all. There's not much point in buying good speakers if you're just gonna shove them against the wall.

if you want to feel the bass, just get a buttkicker or bass-shaker etc.....

I personally don't care for the "too much" bass management approach that most here seem to like.... I prefer the "Proper" amount of bass to accurately replicate the director's intentions, in addition to not drowning out the other audio......

Very true. So would the derrick explosion in There Will Be Blood qualify as a place where the director intended for the bass to be unholy? I think i already know the answer.

All this stuff about speakers close to the wall only applies to rear-ported cabinets does it not?

Thanks for all your opinions..I guess i will leave my set up as it is with my couch in the center of the room. Right now I am happy with whatever I hear.As I hear from u guys, the bass gets too boomy some times if you sit near the wall.
