Here are some customer reviews:

Bottom line, I don't think those guys are on the up-and-up. I definitely would avoid them.

I don't know if AVS carries that projector, and I know AVS forums has a bad reputation here, but their prices, advice, and customer service are top notch. I bought my projectors from them, and I would not think of going anywhere else to buy a projector.

I guess I just don't "get-it" when it comes to the animosity about AVS around here....... there are a LOT of knowledgeable people there in regards to home-theater..... and just because many choose to spend a small nation's GDP on their set-up, yet not buy a blu-ray player, is their choice..... Doesn't make them any less knowledgeable in other areas though

Most of the members at AVS are great. By most I mean over 99%. But that last 1%, the shills and MS employee, gave it that reputation. When a few are given free reign to attack at will anyone who disagrees with them the whole site takes the hit not just those few posters. I stay away from certain areas and have been having a great time lately. I've gotten a lot of great ideas for my future PJ set-up from looking at some of those "monster" theaters over there. Of course my whole theater will come in under the price of some of those guys projectors.

Great! Thanks for the heads up and information guys, I really appreciate it.

Beta man - love the house

Brain Sturgeon - every time I read a post of yours I get smarter. And your home theater brings a tear to my eye

Avoid Grey market type sellers like that. Also, AVS forum is great as i'm a member there as well and the wealth of knowledge on home theater products is astounding. Onto your original question of the HC5500. I just got one in and am having issues with it not focusing correctly, has a dead pixel near center, and blurry pans. I could have just gotten a lemon but nevertheless I am returning it and pre-ordering the Panny pt-ae3000u. I have seen others who have said Mitsubishi has QC issues.

i have the Mistu 6000 and it's great a really phenom projector the reviews have been stellar from what i saw - but i would assume there are some issues out there as there are with any electronic device...should you get it, i would recommend adding your own external filter - taping some 3M material on the outside...the 5500 and 5000 don't have an easily removable filter like the 6000

depending on the size of your screen i would advise a BR Player for sure...perhaps you are already planned that - but from my perspective the difference between an HD or BR image versus DVD and SD is so great, i can't even begin to consider watching anything but HD or BR quality pictures...

even for my kids movies, i find myself getting them BluRay since i tend to watch the movies with them - i just can't stand downgrading

from everything i read prior to my purchase the Panasonics are really nice projectors as well

on a side note, i would not necessarily get an HC6000 over a 5500 or 5000 - it's not that huge of an upgrade from the 5000 or 5500 (my brother got a 5000 not too long ago)

not sure what the price differences are between the two but nothing wrong with the 5000 or 5500
