Here is a link to an article on the PS3 that only gives the videogame system a C rating.
http://www.edn.com/blog/400000040/post/1680007368.html?nid=2436&rid=885932481 Of course I disagree with this negative article on the PS3. Many mainstream consumer video magazines have given the PS3 high 90’s ratings. The PS3 has seen overall value ratings of 97% which is hard for any consumer product to achieve. This EDN article I do not agree with. If one buys a X-box with the HD-DVD add on drive it will cost exactly the same price as a Sony PS3 machine. The DVD format for dual layer discs only holds 8.5 GB. Some of the HDTV games for the PS3 are around 16GB. Sony either had to place a HD-DVD drive or BLU-RAY drive in its machine since a DVD-ROM drive does not hold enough space for games. BLU-RAY can hold 10GB more per layer and 20GB more per dual layer then HD-DVD. Sony decided to go with a built in BLU-RAY player which is popular in Japan versus the HD-DVD player. BLU-RAY is technically better. Another thing I am sick of hearing is how the Sony PS3 has a large inventory of unsold machines that are not selling. There are many areas of the country that run out of stock on Sony PS3 machines. So far the area I live in I have not seen a machine on the shelf (I have not been hunting for one either). Since my local Best Buy is out of stock on PS3 I can order one online on Best Buy website which claims they have them in stock in the warehouse for direct shipping. I have heard reports from people that some stores get like a thousand or a few hundred PS3 and they are sold in a few days. Sony is so busy trying to get PS3 machines shipped to retail stores that they have not shipped machines to some large distributors. I know this one large distributor that carriers many Sony products and they have been trying to get a Sony Playstation 3 in stock since November 2006 and they have not received one Playstation 3 from Sony yet. This same distributor has 1,572 PS3 Wireless controllers currently in stock and 257 PS3 remote controls but has so far never received any PS3 machines. Now if you want an X-box HD-DVD addon device they have 1,333 of these devices currently in stock. Sony appears to be shipping their product to the largest retail stores first like Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, etc. Once the demand starts to fall on the Sony PS3 then distributors should start seeing machines also. Perhaps by May or sooner it will be easier to get a Sony PS3 machine. |

I agree that those criticisms of PS3 are bogus. A little off topic: I found my PS3 at a local Target. For whatever reason, people are not shopping at Target for PS3 in my area and a number of units are almost always in stock. I think that most people do not shop there for electronics, opting instead for places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's and other chains that cater more to audio/video gear.
Funny story: when I walked out of Target with the PS3, a guy my age playing with his kid saw me carrying the PS3 and made a joke about going over to my house to do some gaming. Keep in mind, this is at a time when PS3s were very hard to find. I told him the store had two more PS3s in stock. He gave me a blank look. When I was halfway across the parking lot, he yelled out to me, "ya mean there are two more of them in the store?" I said yes, and he took his kid and disappeared inside. The point of the story is that someone interested in PS3 was at a Target, didn't bother checking to see if they had the PS3 and even after HE SAW SOMEONE WALK OUT OF THE STORE WITH ONE, it still didn't really dawn on him that he could purchase it there at Target. Truth is, I myself didn't go into Target that day to buy a PS3. On a whim, I went to the electronics desk and asked the clerk when he was expecting them in. He said he didn't know. Another clerk who overheard this pointed out they had three in stock. |

HDTV1080P myself and I'm sure alot of other people do not read posts which feature paragraphs longer then 5 sentences.
With that said, this article is no different then others. Because of the PS3 price ($600) they expect more out of it then they would a cheaper console. For example the Nintendo Wii. My buddy got one 3 months ago and its been collecting dust ever since he beat Zelda. As for me, I've been playing Motorstorm, Tekken Tag and Resitance Fall of Man online. But because of the Wii's price it is given a pass to not have any pressure on releasing great games/fixing problems anytime soon. I'm having a much better time with the PS3 then I did with the PS2 at this point in their lives. But that doesnt matter to some, they think for $200 PS3 games should BLOW away Xbox360 graphics and play better then Wii games. They set unrealistic expectations for the extra price instead of realizing PS3 is early in it's life and will soon be the undisputed best console on the market for obvious reasons |

I think that there will be always be critism on the ps3, no matter what. When microsoft launched the xbox 360 in 2005, they took in more preorders then they had consoles which made a lot of fans very angry, which created a shortage. Sony wanted to avoid having. I read an article that mentioned that just because there are ps3's sitting on shelves untouched, doesn't mean that no one is interested in them. It means that sony has been able to make enough to meet demand.

It really all comes down to price.
If the PS3 was priced at $300, all you would hear is praise. People are just ticked that they have to spend $500-$600 for the machine and are trying to justify why they should not/have not bought it. That's my conclusion.....take it for what it's worth! ![]() |

That review is totally biased and ridiculous. I get tired of it when people talk about the 360 having hundreds of games and the PS3 only having a couple dozen. I mean, the PS3 has only been out a few months and the 360's been out, what, almost a year and a half? And then he says he likes the controller but it's not as good as the Wii's. Okay...? The Wii, if you can't tell, is basically a revamped GameCube. Graphics are basically the same. Still doesn't play DVD's. What people are buying in that system is the remote; that's basically what it comes down to, and that's not a bad thing - just a different preference. The PS3 is much different than that. I think it's funny that he says that the PSNetwork is not as good as XBox Live; okay, well I guess I'd rather have to pay to utilize all the features on my system. Seriously, it's free, so I'm okay with its "shortcomings." One last thing: he is using a 30" CRT HDTV...bad choice. Not to bash those TV's (they still look good) but they usually don't have quite the same resolution as an LCD of the same size would. Fanboys always find something to bash so that they can justify why their system is superior. Personally, I researched both the 360 and the PS3 and to me, the hands-down better choice, the unbiased choice was the PS3.

I'm glad to hear you say that. Some people really hate sony's guts, but if the price shouldn't be $500 or $600, then what should the price be? Is $300 or $400 too much to ask for an xbox 360? Both the ps3 service and browser are considered to be starting points that can be improved with firmware updates. I think that the ps3 is more higher priced because the blu-ray disc drive, but I dont' really think that sony can price it the same as the xbox 360. Looking at the price range for all three systems, the wii is the lowest, the xbox 360 is in the middle, and the ps3 is the highest. The prices go $250.00, $300.00, $400.00, $500.00, and $600.00. Strong point to consider.
