Default Help! Loading MP3's into my PS3!

I am a complete novice when it comes to the capabilities my PS3-60GB has to offer. I know that I can import my computer-based MP3's (about 30GB) in to my PS3, but it won't recognize any media servers.

Can anyone steer me to a site or thread (I've tried searching here and also on the PS3 site to no avail), whereby I can find all of the information I need to get this task accomplished?

Thanks so much!

Its actually quite easy, there are a number of programs you can use. Windows media player and Nero are the easiest that ive seen. just make sure that on your computer the file folders are "shared" and you should see the something for the media server on your ps3.

You can actually save them on the hard drive or you can stream them. I only have a 40GB so I stream them. I use windows meadia player. Download the latest version, I think its 11. Then its as easy as checking a box for file streaming in one of the options tabs. After you check the box, you just have to turn the PS3 on and a window will pop up on your computer asking if you want to allow file sharing with the new device(PS3). Then you're set!

How do you make an MP3 file to play on a CD player that does not plays MP3's?

Thanks

step aside children, haha
its really easy, you don't have to move your library
all you have to do is open up media player 11 dig in the options until you find a setting about sharing your collection, or streaming it, or being a media server... sorry at work and can't give exact details, but google is your friend
and once you do that, it shows up as a media server.
Then its as simple as selecting yoru music and copying it.

okay i couldn't help it, i googled it for you
http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...nnectdlna.html
scroll down a bit and it tells you how to setup windows media player 11
you may have to add your music to the media player library, and that's it... don't have to have anythign open for it to be recognized, just the computer has to be on.

Just got back from work and I saw the replies. Thanks so much for helping out on this. I'm off for the next few days, so I'll be sure to give your recommendations a shot. Thanks so much guys for all your input!

I think I'll go with the steaming option as opposed to copying them onto my PS3 HDD. At least, I'll try that first.

Thanks again!

I tried it, but it won't work.

My PS3 recognizes WMP 11, but it won't allow streaming or copying....something about error 4405....

Do I have to convert my external HDD to FAT32?

And how do I do that? And will it affect my backups as well?

Just buy an external hard drive and copy the stuff over that way. Its simpler, 10 times faster and all you have to do is plug it in and out. 40GB of MP3's would take a couple of days on my system via streaming.

Is it also possible to stream video through WMP via the PS3? For some reason it's not refreshing when I add video and I can't seem to get any of my videos to play (or show up). It just says 'unkown format'. Music seems to work fine, and pictures too. Thanks in advance for any help. BTW, I have googled but can't find anything about refreshing to view newly added files. I've tried restarting the PS3.
