Onkyo/Integra Listening Modes

I have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI to an Integra DTR-7.8. The PS3 sends everything to the receiver as PCM. I have been using the Multichannel listening mode for all of my blu's thus far, but for those that have a 7.1 setup do any of you use some of the matrixing listening modes, like THX Ultra 2 etc, to matrix the 5.1 into 7.1? Or, do you think your blu's sound their best when left on multichannel?

The PS3 ( I have one as well plugged into an Onkyoy 805) does all the decoding for you, from the PS3 I usually listened to it on the THX Ultra setting to get the 7.1 channels. I recently upgraded to a Sony BDP-350, I recommend this step as it will Bit Stream the High Def audio to your Integra and instead of it saying Multi Channel it will actually read DTS HD MA or what ever HD audio it is encoded in. I think the reciever does a much better job of decoding this bit stream output and since the PS3 does not allow for sending in bit stream. The Sony BDP-350 rocks and I say is better than the PS3 for Blu Ray. Crutchfield has it right now for $100 less than anyone else.

Keep in mind that if you have a movie encoded in 5.1 on Blu Ray its native source will be 5.1 on your reciever, that is when I use the THX setting for 7.1 and it does an excellent job, I like to use all 7.1 channels though, I paid for em wnat to get the use out of them. You should read the thread on the Sony BDP-350. If you go this route let us know if you need help on the settings as it was a bit tricky at first.

Yeah, I kind of had the same thought with the 7.1 vs 5.1. I have the 7.1 setup, so why not use all of what I have. I do sometimes feel I get a better sound out of my blu's with the multich listening mode though. Now with my SD-DVD's I think the Ultra 2 setting is the best. I'll eventually get a standalone BD Player when it's time to upgrade from my upconverting DVD. Thanks for your help, Tim.
