I purchased both the Marantz SR7002 and Marantz BD2008 and connected both by way of the 7.1 analog and HDMI for video.

I had spent a lot of $$$ on speakers, subs and had them connected to a Denon 3805. I was never happy with the sound.

I stepped up and purchased the Marantz thinking if it did not sound good, I could sell them on E-bay to try and re-coup my $$$.

But the sound coming through my speakers both through Blu and my STB box has me completely satisfied with my system and purchase. I find I am now proud to show off the AQ.

All I am now spending $$$ on are new Blus.

What does this even mean?

Do tell us how Marantz tweaked the audio to their specs? Do you even know what you're talking about?

Default Custom installation

A.F.A.I.K. Marantz is to Denon (same company) as what Integra is to Onkyo, for example. This means that they usually share the same (rebadged) chassis, but add a RS-232 port for custom installation; but I haven't checked this one.

You know, just about when it was released, there were some hints allegedly based on inside info posted @ AVS that the Marantz would have a Marantz-proprietary version of Denon's AL24 as well as some teaks in the analog audio section. True or false? I don't know, but it might be useful to ask Am Theater if they could be more specific as regards these improvements.

I jsut got the Marantz BD-8002 yesterday , i ordered it back in May , Went on back order fast sold out. Well it finally came in , hooked it up and did alot of reading on here and other forums and the manual , I can say this is one heck of a machine. Size is massive and the build Qualt is like a Tank. Anyways After a few hours playing with setup and figueing out the menu's I throw in the Movie Hitman WOW the pic & Audio was awsome. the bass is deep and moving, Then came Top Gun Played it in Dolby True HD 1st really good then switched it over to DTS Master Audio , It blew me away , DTS MA is way better than DD true HD any day , the Pic Quality was good ,but I still have to tweek it alittle alot of things can be done to it , 1st thing you have to do is change the IRE setting from 7.5 to .o this make the blacks deeper and the pic more brighter, also thier is so many options for you to play with , & some things you can't do from the reg. menu you have to put a disc in and play it to beable to change the settings , different but okay once you figure it out.Next i threw in a standard DVD Alvin & the chimpmunks (my little girls ) anyways the begining with the colors are showing was unbelivable , I was really impressed with this also upconvert was again perfect , Now here it also shine's 2 channel stereo playback put in a few cd's and man this unit can play Music from heaven , the sound is parr from none , really impressed me , so much that I was going to buy a SACD player next like the Marantz SA-8001 or the DV-7001 these two have good reviews for music playback , But for right now I wiil hold off buying a cd player,
As for really good break down for specs go to crutchfield .com and read the reserch spec , it has more than the marantz site , also I goggled it and read alot tonight on the player , This unit cost $2,000.00 And I think its well worth it, Ihave been a marantz fan for years ,this is the forth system I have built and alway been marantz for EQ. & Klipsch for speakers.
I also seen the Marantz BD-7003 coming out & read the specs as with the CD 5003 , MY biggest problem with the new units is looks !! I really don't like the new look I know its only $799.00 but looks is alot to me , And I also have the Marantz SR-7002 RECV so the BD-8002 matches well. And also if I get the Marantz SA-8001 it will match too, LOL As for me My new system rocks really well and I'm very very happy with it all, hope this helps you in you'r dession's , sandman. LMk what you do .

Hey here's the hands on reserch i was telling you about. This is crazy ,

Input and Outputs

Features
Precision Drive Mechanism: The BD8002 features a unique drive mechanism to further protect the internal disc space from magnetic influences, dust and external noise by adding a shield to the bottom and top of the unit to create an ideal playback environment inside the unit. In addition, the Blu-ray player features an advanced loader design constructed with a combination of different material to ensure stable disc rotation and great accuracy in reading the disc.

Multi-Layered Chassis Design: For stable, accurate playback, the BD8002 employs multilayered construction to eliminate noise and vibration from the outside. The Blu-ray DVD player incorporates dual-layered top shields, triple-layered bottom shields, a highly rigid base chassis, an aluminum front panel and four large size feet

Full 10-Bit Processing Video Circuit: The Marantz Blu-ray player features a Full 10-Bit Silicon Optix's Realta HQV Processing Video Circuit which offers the following benefits.

Separate Circuit Blocks: The video and power circuits are separated into two independent blocks within the Blu-ray player's chassis. To thoroughly eliminate signal degradation caused by interference between circuits, each circuit has been mounted on its own board.
1080/24p Output: The BD8002 includes a 1080/24p HDMI output to faithfully reproduce video images recorded on a Blu-ray disc. When connected to a 1080/24p display, you can enjoy remarkable video performance of Blu-ray which brings out the full character of film material.

Hollywood Quality Video (HQV): The Marantz BD8002 incorporates an innovative Hollywood Quality Video Technology. HQV is a new benchmark standard of video excellence created through a partnership between Silicon Optix and Teranex that has recently received and Emmy award in 2007 for its video processing achievements. HQV represents the integration Teranex's broadcasting platform and software algorithms (refined over 1000,000 hours of content verification for the industry' highest level of quality) into Silicon Optix' Realta chip (the industry's first fully software programmable video array processor capable of performing over 1 trillion operation per seconds with an Image Fidelity Enhancement Engine and end-to-end true 10-bit image processing). These core technologies combine together to enable the simultaneous processing of dual high-definition image streams for home entertainment and professional video display products.
I/P Converter from Silicon Optix Inc: The BD8002 uses a 10-bit I/P converter called REALTA sxT2 HQV. This 10-bit processing offers high conversion performance and improves motion detection capability. Regularity in pixel-level patterns are rapidly and accurately detected not only in the 3:2 patterns of film sources but in other patterns as well during I/P (Interlaced/Progressive) conversion.
1080p Video Scaler: the same 10-bit video converter known as REALTA sxT2 HQV is also used as a video scaler and is capable of 720p, 1080i or 1080p output for HDMI.
Audio/Video D/A Converters: The BD8002 utilizes advanced 192kHz/24-bit D/A audio converters on all channels to provide 24-bit resolution and dynamic range in excess of 120 dB. In addition the BD8002 is equipped with a 297MHz/12-bit D/A video converter for exceptional video playback.

Note: A dedicated adapter (sold separately) is required for miniSD and microSD cards.

Blu-ray Disc Compatible: Blu-ray Disc (BD) is a new high-definition disc format designed to take advantage of today's high quality HDTVs. The resolution is up to 1920 x 1080 (1080p) and the data transfer rate is up to 40 mbps. Blu-ray Discs and players offer several advantages over the standard DVD format:

Better picture quality: Blu-ray Disc is a true high-definition format offering video at 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or 1080/24p resolution. While standard DVDs look very good on an HDTV, they don't provide a high-definition signal (not even when you use an up-converting DVD player). Blu-ray Disc delivers an extraordinarily sharp, clean, detailed picture, with deeper, richer colors.
Better sound quality: In addition to the same multi-channel sound formats you're accustomed to with DVD (Dolby Digital and DTS), Blu-ray Disc offers Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and uncompressed 5.1 channel PCM
Much greater storage capacity: What makes Blu-ray Disc's superior picture and sound possible is the much higher storage capacity of Blu-ray Disc discs. A single-layer Blu-ray Disc can hold 25 gigabytes of data, over five times the amount a standard DVD can hold. Dual-layer Blu-ray Discs hold 50 gigabytes, which equates to nine hours of High Definition or 23 hours of Standard Definition video, plus high-resolution multi-channel audio and the added features and material that require multiple discs with standard DVD.
Compatibility with your current disc collections: To ensure backward-compatibility with your existing library of discs, Blu-ray Disc players use a dual-laser mechanism: a blue laser for playing high-definition Blu-ray Discs, and a conventional red laser for playing DVDs and audio CDs.
Future Compatibility: As Blu-Ray technology continues to evolve, new disc types with enhanced functionality will become available. In order for you to enjoy this new functionality, you will likely be required to update the firmware in your player. These firmware updates will become available for downloading from the Internet.

Audio Formats: The Blu-ray player's HDMI and digital optical/coaxial outputs are capable of Multi-channel Surround playback, Multi-channel LPCM playback and Down-mixed 2-channel audio playback. The BD8002 supports the following Audio Formats depending on the unit's HDMI or digital output setting, disc type used and audio recording format of disc.

HDMI Output: The Marantz BD8002 Blu-ray player can output video and digital multi-audio signals via HDMI. When connected to a AV surround amps with an HD-format decoder, the BD8002's can be used to enjoy high-quality video and audio.

Overview Hands-on Research Features & Specs Accessories Reviews
The BD8002 combines carefully chosen internal components with advanced circuitry and solid construction to deliver breathtaking picture and sound — upholding the Marantz tradition of high-quality, high-performance audio/video gear.

Top-notch Blu-ray and DVD visuals
This player's Silicon Optix Realta™ HQV video processor produces exceptionally detailed images from high-definition Blu-ray Discs. Movies come alive with vibrant, natural colors and extraordinary depth. You'll also enjoy a clean, smooth picture with your existing DVD collection, thanks to the Realta's professional-grade scaler. It upconverts DVD video to resolutions as high as 1080p, without introducing jagged edges or other upconversion artifacts.

The closest possible reproduction of movie theater sound
Good surround sound is important for completing the home theater experience, and the BD8002 definitely delivers. Pop in a Blu-ray Disc with a Dolby® TrueHD or DTS-HD™ Master Audio soundtrack, and the player reproduces the track exactly as the movie studio mastered it. The BD8002's meticulously designed audio section faithfully re-creates all the dynamics and subtleties these new lossless audio formats provide. The end result is thrilling surround sound that pulls you into the on-screen action like never before.

A sturdy, vibration-fighting chassis
Vibration can prevent electronic equipment for performing at its peak, so Marantz designed the BD8002 to eliminate its negative effects. The player's solid chassis includes a dual-layered top plate and triple-layered bottom plate for added rigidity. The anti-vibration disc transport mechanism features metal tray guides that guard against dust and magnetic influences for error-free playback.

Much more than just Blu-ray
The versatile BD8002 lets you enjoy Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, and CDs you burn at home, plus pre-recorded music CDs. It can even play discs filled with MP3 and WMA music files, as well as DivX® video files. And the BD8002 makes it easy to share your digital photos with friends and family — just pop your digital camera's SD™ memory card into a slot on the front panel to display your snapshots on your TV screen.

This is the $800 player, right? And does it look promising for DVD upconversion?

JUST READ IT: It will contain the Realta chip, so it will probably rock for DVD upconversion...

If that's the case, I'll get the Marantz over the Denon in a heartbeat if this machine will truly be $800...
The specs listed in post 17 are for the $2000 BD8002.

The new $800 Marantz is the BD7003.

Little more info...and a pic.

Marantz has added a 'more affordable' Blu-ray player to their disgustingly expensive lineup. The Marantz BD7003 doesn't quite evoke the same raised eyebrows as the $2000 BD8002, but with a price tag of $799 it'll still get more than a few shocked gasps. Especially as the 'high-value' BD7003 is only a Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player that tries to cover up its inadequacies with 1080p DVD upscaling, HDMI 1.3a and Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS HD Master Audio decoding. $800 seems more than a little pricey for these specs, but if you're not intimidated you'll be able to get your hands on the Marantz BD7003 Blu-ray player in November.
