Default HDNet Movies and MGMHD Thread

Just wondering if anyone has watched any of these. During the last couple of weeks, they've aired such titles Jaws, Red Dawn, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, JFK and Multiplicity along with the world premiere of Red, among others.

The PQ on most of these is great, but on some of these, like Jaws and Gator (Burt Reynolds oldie), the PQ is great. They did a great job on Gator. When they showed Lawrence of Arabia, the PQ was the best I'd ever seen.

Coming later this morning are Bubba Ho-Tep and THX-1138.

I find that they show movies that don't make the normal rounds on Showtime, HBO or Cinemax.

My DVR gets plenty full lately. Anyone else watching? Cheers!

By the way, anyone who liked JFK, should really enjoy Executive Action. Granted, it's a little dated, but the movie is fast paced and provides another insight to the JFK conspiracy. It airs next on the 19th at 10:30am EST on the HDNM Channel.

Yep-- HDNet along with Universal HD on DirecTV has some of the best broadcast material I've seen. My DVR is full of stuff off of these channels: E.T., Apollo 13, Karate Kid, Jaws, Amadeus, Bridge Over the River Kwai, Taxi Driver, Ghostbusters II, etc. They also do a good job of presenting movies in their OAR, unlike HBOHD or CinemaxHD.

I thought the Bridge Over The River Kwai had some great PQ too. It was quite the difference from when I had watched it on TCM (and that was only about a week before). I also thought they did a great job on those other movies you listed, but I wish I hadn't missed Apollo 13.

I just watched Leviathan recently and that looked great too.

JFK looked quite good to me. I'm happy to see them showing these films. I don't have HBO or Cinemax, or any other Premium channels, so finding these movies on HDnet and UniversalHD is quite the bonus!

Yeah, it was nice seeing Jaws and some of the other flicks they have. Jaws doesn't get much of a run on HBO or Cinemax anymore.

I watched Red. The wife and I thought it was a fantastic movie. Great story and superb acting. Brian Cox was great.

I've been watching these with my Fios service (which just tripled their HD movie channels and doubled their overall HD count. so glad)

I have to saty though, I thought JFK looked awful. I am curious of other's opinions because it's possible I was just not feeling well and it colored my perception. but honestly I was bothered and it made me yearn for the upcoming blu.

While I didn't think the JFK PQ was awful, I just didn't find it that spectacular and that may be cause it's got alot of Black and White shots and there was some intentional grain there. I do hope the BD is better though. I honestly thought the PQ on the OTHER JFK movie was better. Check out Executive Action and you'll see what I mean.

I loved having those channels before I moved. I'm without cable/dish for another month, then I'm getting them back. Thank God!

Like others, My DVR is lacking space due to the good selection of movies on these channels.

For anyone who hasn't yet seen Red, I heartily recommend this movie. I finally got around to watching it last night and gotta say the actors all did a great job in it.

Two to HDNet. I am angry at MGMHD. I have a few friends who have hearing problems and MGMHD never shows anything with subtitles. In this respect, HBO and Cinemax are much better than Showtime.
