Default Panasonic DMP-DB30 or DB50

Hi, I’m a newbie to blue ray and I’m thinking of buying a Panasonic DMP-DB30 or DB50. Comparing the two players the obvious differences are price, true HD, MCH outputs, and networking. I’m planning on using my Arcam AV350 for the DTS processing, so is there a difference in picture and sound quality that justifies an extra £200. Please let me know your experience?

Why not wait for the new BD35 and BD55 to come out. They are both cheaper and (presumably) better.

Both players have MCH outputs.

The BD30 won't internally decode TrueHD / DTS-MA HD, but if you have a receiver that decodes though that isn't an issue.

The real big difference is that the BD-30 is a Profile 1.1, and the BD-50 is a 2.0 player.

As was said - the prices will fall once the 35/55 are released.

I managed to get a BD-30 for $159 today from Sound Advice. New, in box, not a floor model or return. Going to pick it up tomorrow and hopefully all will work better than that horrible Samsung I have now. Never, ever again.

Yea I picked up the BD-30 for $195 from Best Buy. I have yet to upgrade any of the firmwares and it plays every blu-ray I have thrown at it and very fast too. I am glad I bought it, I never use my PS3 to play blu-rays now.

You both got a great deal.

I haven't upgraded my firmware since January on my player. None of the updates apply to my use, so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies in my case - and my player still runs like a dream!

Be careful saying that here...you'll stir up the native fanboys. They can't handle seeing that there's a player better than the PS3.

Hahaha I know the terms in saying that. And the reason why I don't use my PS3 anymore is because I don't have to hear that blasted fan working over time to cool down the player when Im watching a blu-ray. Nothing against the PS3 blu-ray capabilities
