Default bic dv62si or polk monitor 50s?

***monitor 30's actually***

I'm looking into upgrading (buying a new one i guess) my home theater system, so far i have a Samsung HT-x50 (subwoofer makes weird noises and the receiver doesnt have enough inputs for what i need..plus the speakers suck) and im looking into buying a Sony STRDG720 receiver and either bic dv62si for the L/R's or Polk Monitor 30's.

I'm only 15 so i dont need an amazing home theater system, i just cant stand what i have and only have a little over $200 to spend on the L/R and center speakers (im going to buy the surrounds in a few months, i dont want to be poor lol). im planning on buying the receiver and speakers on friday, so any help is great.

thanks

On that kind of budget I'd say save your money.

I would get the Monitor 50s, but I am a Monitor 50 owner and have never heard the BICs.

The Polks are a great speaker at a great price.

I use the Monitor 30s for surrounds. I can't comment on them as mains, but I like them a lot as my surrounds.

On a $200 budget I would go with the Polk R50 and the csi-1 center. It is not as crisp as the Monitor series, but sounds very good for the money (and look very good IMO). Frys intermitenly carries the R50 for $60. Honestly you will even be over budget on these. The Monitor 50 is a great Speaker if you can find it on sale for $100, but will put you well over budget with a center.

hmm i think ive decided on what i want:

L/R - Polk Audio R150's (correct me if im wrong, i dont know exactly what im talking about -- the frequency response on these is 60Hz - 24Khz while the speakers i have right now are 150Hz - 20Khz, so these will sound a lot better?)

Center - Polk Audio CS1

Receiver - Sony STRDG720

total: ~$450

does this seem good for my budget?

Not sure how that center will match up with the R150's. It has the same size woofers in it, and it looks like it'll be fine.

You know, honestly while the speakers aren't as big as the r150's, you get a sub- why not look at the Polk RM6750? I still use some of the speakers from that set. It's got a very good sound for a very low price. You'll be at your budget of $200, and you can use the surrounds and sub as you transition to a new set down the road (what I'm doing now).

If you're in a bedroom or small room it'll provide plenty of sound for watching movies, and actually sounds good as well.

*edit* I see you're wanting a receiver along with the speakers. For $200, I don't know how you're going to get there. I'd suggest looking at Onkyo's HTiB solutions, or continue to save your money.

the $200 is only for the L/R/C speakers, im spending $250 on the receiver.

Are the speakers i picked out better than that set?

With no sub, yes the Polk RM6750 will sound better. If you had a powered subwoofer already then the bookshelf speakers you picked out would maybe be better.

hmm, well what im planning on doing is buying the front 3 speakers, then sub, then surrounds.

Last question before i jump and buy these, are the R150's better than the speakers my HT-x50 came with?

heres the specs i could find from those cheap speakers so you dont have to look for it--

75dB
150Hz - 20Khz
144w
3ohm

thanks a lot

3ohm may be a major cause for concern- what kind of receiver are you using?

*edit* Nevermind I see you're looking at the Sony:

8ohms- don't use that with those speakers. You'll fubar something up.
